My service 4 wheel drive light comes on in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Does it need service or can I reset this?
The service 4 wheel drive light comes on because there's a problem. The biggest causes of this I've seen are a software glitch in the final drive control module which the dealer can fix by reprogramming and the other is usually the electric actuator on the front axle housing. The only light that comes on by a timer is the one that says, "perform service" in your overhead console or odometer.
Do you use your 4 wheel drive? If you do then it may just need the oil changed and away you go. Usually the lightonly comes on for minor problems. If you do not use it then just ignore the light or reset the light

The problem seems to go away after I drive for a while. When its hot outside the problem doesn't show up at all. My jeep drives ok though in either situation
I have the same problem in my 05 jeep hemi 4x4 i have come to find out that for a quick fix you can lock it in 4low and drive aways with it and it should go off then put back in 4high. but thats just a quick fix
