VSC Warning Light

you will need to hook up a scan tool, I know many parts stores will loan you one or let you use it in the parking lot, VSC could have something to do with a wheel mounted speed sensor, did you hit something? any noises, try this and see if it goes away

1. • 1 Shut off the vehicle's engine and apply the parking brake to protect yourself while working on the vehicle.
     
   • 2 Open the vehicle's hood and examine the engine compartment. Locate the air filter box mounted to the left of the engine. The air filter box features a black exterior, square in shape, and a large ribbed intake hose.
     
   • 3 Check all of the small black vacuum lines surrounding the air filter box. Reconnect any disconnected or loose vacuum lines you find.
     
   • 4 Start the engine and drive the vehicle to clear the "VSC" warning light displayed on the dashboard. If the VSC light fails to go out after driving the vehicle normally, proceed to the next step.
     
   • 5 Park the vehicle, turn off the engine and set the parking brake. Open the vehicle's hood and disconnect the battery's negative cable for 15 seconds, using an appropriate size socket. Disconnecting the negative battery cable will reset the vehicle's computer and clear the "VSC" warning.

VSC is brake /traction related ..... this is one explanation

It would appear that system braking, traction control, and possibly some anti rollover control is dis abled if this warning light is on. So it is both fuel in efficient and possibly dangerous to drive with this light on.

Like everything else in a computerized vehicle, if the warning lights are on, codes are stored. Get the codes read.

Whenever this warning or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module has detected a fault, it then disables the system as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Hi, have you scanned the vehicle to see why your check engine light is on? IF no, you need to. Toyota/Lexus computer system illumniates both engine light and VSC lights whenver a fault occurs in either unit. VSC or stability control is like trac-control or ABS braking system. Get car scanned and make sure all computers are scanned for additional codes, repair them first reset lights and test drive. ON a side note, fixing check engine light will usually take VSC light away also, however sometimes the VSC system will glitch out and a Steering Angle relearn is necessary, it takes about 3mins to perform and a good quality scan tool with 2004 current software. Had this happen to my '05 Vibe (Matrix evil clone) recently. Mechanic read & reset codes. The non-flashing Engine light showed 2 large emission leaks. The VSC could be any number of things. He said hopefully it was a false positive on the VSC... potentially expensive to fix. Lights stayed off for a couple weeks & are now back on. I'm planning on seeing him later today. Also, said stability light stayed off, it is still working. fwiw...

Please, make your mechanic check the ABS computer. My RAV4 did the same thing, but the mechanical components were alright. After a while, I almost fell off a cliff because my brakes stopped responding properly. When further checked, my mechanic discovered that the ABS computer was damaged. The part alone costs a whooping $3 thousand bucks, not including labor. So, beware and take precautions. Your life may be endangered.

It stands for Vehicle Stability Control When the VSC system takes control it activiates stability correction. The slip indication light flashes while the buzzer activates. The VSC is able to operate at all times except when the centre differential is locked. When the centre differential locks, the VSC-OFF light in the combination meter illuminates to inform the driver that the VSC function has been turned OFF. The centre differential lock is designed for freeing the vehicle if it is stuck in mud for example, however it would be difficult for the vehicle to free itself if the engine output were reduced due to the operation of VSC. Therefore when the centre differential is locked, the VSC function is turned OFF.If a malfunction occurs in the VSC system, the VSC warning light illuminates to alert the driver. If the vehicle with VSC begins to oversteer or understeer because of an emergency avoidance measure, or by excessive speed in a corner, VSC will automatically activate. By adjusting the engine’s power output and braking each wheel independently, VSC helps to return the vehicle to a ‘zone of stable operation’..
