Why does my nissan maxima door locks unlock themselves and there is a clickng sound
It sounds like there is an electrical fault with the Remote locking circuit. When you lock the vehicle, without seeing the schematic electrical drawing, there is a relay that will operate to lock the doors. This applies power to the small motors installed within the doors, that operate the locks open/close (Lock/Unlock). Generally there is an electrical componet that by passes the relay once the doors are locked so it doesnt burn out, e.g Capacior. With that in mind, if this component is shorting out, power will be applied and/ or released from the holding circuit which in turn, will operate the vehicles locking mechanism.
Best way forward
1. If you have a Gregorys manual, available from Super Cheap Auto for under $50, it will have the Electrical circuit drawing for the Door locks, if it's standard fit to the path finder. You will be able then, with the use of a Multi meter, to check out where power is getting to or not (12V dc).
2. If not give the Auto electrician $50 to fix.
As the Nissian is 24 years old, I would be looking for a electrical component failure.
I hope this helps you out mate,
Stevie C.
