Have you tried starting it in neutral if it cranks it is not in park all the way your syncronizer might be going bad it a cheap try.

The problem is likely your neutral switch on the side of the tranny. Wires may have melted and shorted to ground or switch itself may have terminal shorted to ground.

First of all, I take it you are using your seatbelt.
There is a small micro switch in the bottom of the seatbelt plug.
Check that it`s still in place. It`s only a contact breaker switch.
You could unwire it to stop the annoying light, but will need to fix it for the next MOT

IF THE FUSE BLOWS IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE HAS A SHORT IN THAT CIRCUIT. CAR WON'T RUN WITH A SHORTED ECM. CHECK THE WIRING FIRST FOR A BARE OR PINCHED WIRE.

fuse 8 40a supplies power to starter relay and ignition switch, to close the starter solenoid and engage the starter which draws directly from the battery. check to see that the starter relay is closing, if not ensure that the park neutral switch is not faulty (open circuit), it provides path to close relay (ground side) on the 85 - 86 terminals. if the starter relay does not close the starter will not run. if you have a spare relay swap out the relay for a quick fix attempt. hope this helps

jeep grand cherokee lerado 95, wont turn over, i have replaced the crank shaft position sensor, the alternator, distributor (the whole thing, cap rotor, and the whole distributer), i have replaced the starter, and batterey termanals, also brand new fuel pump (mine was failing so i bought a new one). i also replased the spark plugs and the cables. the jeep sounds like it wants to start but it just wont. also i got it up and started and drove it around the block a few times, and then waited for it too cool down, 6 hours later it wont start....does anyone know whats going on, i really need my jeep fixed before school starts again, which is in 2 days, any advise will be appreciated.
