In the last few days, I've noticed an intermittent humming sound coming from the back of my 2009 Saturn Aura. The car has 120,000 miles and runs well. The only thing that has changed recently is that the left rear tire was plugged due to a puncture from a screw, but I don't think that's part of the problem. The noise doesn't occur all the time, and it generally goes away for a while once I use the brakes. Any suggestions?
Humming is usually caused by a wheel bearing. Try grabbing each tire and shaking it back and forth. If you hear any kind of clicking or movement, the bearing will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: rear wheel/brake noise
first check condition of discs and pads if all is good drive and pull up handbrake slowly to see if its the handbrake shoes making the noise if still a problem will most probably be rear wheel bearings
SOURCE: whining sound from front passenger side.
Check the condition of front disc brake pads, if they are in need of replacement a preset little metal arm starts rubbing the discs and will make a whining noise. It doesn't do any damage but it's irritating to listen to.
SOURCE: What is the recommended tire pressure for a 2009
You are right. That is to high. 40psi is most likely the maximum pressure that those tires can handle. Your car has a sticker on it somewhere. This sticker will tell you the proper air pressure for your tires. On a 2009, your sticker should be in good, readable condition. Common places for the sticker are: in the jamb of the driver's door, on the inside of the trunk lid, or inside the fuel filler door. If you cannot find the tire pressure sticker in one of these locations, it should also be in your owner's manual. Those numbers should be near the rear of the book in a section called 'specifications' or something similar. Good luck. Proper tire pressure is extremely important is winter weather.
SOURCE: I have a saturn Vue
Based on your description: 150K+left rear slowed down much quicker than the right +/ and the humming noise, there is a great possibility that the Wheel Bearings will have to be replaced.
SOURCE: I have a fairly loud
I would start by checking your wheel bearings. Do this by pushing back and forth on the top of your tire or car near the tire. If the tire wobbles back and forth at all your hub assembly should be replaced. For this problem I would check for this first.
