It rests with a scan tool. There is no other way.
It may reset itself in most cases if it sees the problem is gone.
Unhook the battery and wait ten minutes before unplugging anything to avoid triggering a deployment if you don’t believe me and feel you have to unplug it. It’s usually buried inside the centre consol on the hump near the front in most cars. An unplugged module usually leaves the SRS light on.
Have your dealer repair it , shorting a wire can deploy the air bag and cause many dollars worth of damage, not worth the risk.
SOURCE: the airbag light came on and stayed on for no reason.
I have the same issue (which comes and goes often).
It is caused by a loose wire connection, used for the drivers side airbag located in the seat.. The connector for mine is located under the front drivers seat. There are a couple of connectors that are connected to a bar under the front of the seat. I don't recall which one is used for the Airbag sensor.

There is a special socket for O2 sensors which allow the wires to stick out and not get twisted up. It's not expensive and available at most auto parts stores. Disconnect the sensor from the wiring harness, with the plug and then use the socket to remove and replace the new sensor. Re-connect electrical plug.

SOURCE: how to reset airbag light
After the repair has been made to correct whatever is wrong the technician will reset the light with an OBD2 scan tool. Due to how hazardous it is to work on the SRS it is not a DIY repair. You can more than likely reset the light by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes but unless you repair the problem that caused the light to come on it will, in time, come back on. It is worth a try to be sure it is not just a glitch in the system so I would try the battery disconnect before taking it to a professional for repair.
SOURCE: my service airbag light came on in my 2006
the light only stays on when the system is having a current problem, the only way to make it stay off is have it scanned for codes, and then the system codes diagnosed and repaired, it could be as easy as a bad connection
