Having trouble with odometer display reactivating after 20 mins when should be in 'sleep mode'. been ongoing for 6/7 months, have proved it's not the instrument cluster and have been advised it could be the GEM / BSI unit? Could you please advise me where to find it in my car so i can check for loose connections. Thanks
The GEM has nothing to do with it !
Odometer/Trip Odometer
The odometer and trip odometer are displayed in the integrated circuit LCD display. The instrument cluster records the total mileage of the vehicle using information received from the PCM, and electronically displays this information in the LCD. If this information is not received, the LCD displays all dashes. How did you prove that instrument cluster isn't bad ?
Did you have a factory scan tool hooked up , check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's ? View data to the instrument cluster etc...

Using a multimeter, check for voltage at the lock/unlock solenoid. Disconnect the connector and probe the unlock side with the other lead on a good ground. Hit the unlock twice and see if you get voltage. If yes, the solenoid may be defective or if not, you could possibly have a bad relay. Even though you can hear the relay, that doesn't necessarily mean it's completing the circuit. My car did the same thing and I ended up replacing the relay.
The lock side check would be the same.
Hope this helps!

try a salvage yard that has an expedition or an f150 pickup and take the parts off and install in yours disconnect the negative side of the battery and you shouldn't have to have it reprogrammed

i am almost sure it is in steering col area by firewall. but call any part store like auto zone and they can print it out and tell you if your ford dealer wont. but on the fords they usualy are all in the drivers steering area sometimes way up by fire wall
