1993 ford explorer tranny problems

Leaking alot of fluid has a bad smell and smoking barely moves

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

I'm not an AT technician, but I can tell you that the burnt smell means the trans has gotten hot and with barely any movement, says the pump in the trans isn't working or a valve in the throttle body assembly is stuck shut, really you're probably looking at replacing the trans or having it rebuilt. If your funds are low you may think about picking up a trans from a salvage yard and finding a local shop to install for you if you can't do it yourself. This will save you a large amount of money versus taking to a Ford dealer or transmission shop.

Look underneath. Is there trans oil leaking? Its red and thin so should be dripping easily.
Is the trans correctly filled? Low oil will prevent it moving. Check trans oil with engine running. Should be near high mark.
Is the smell oil? Or are the brakes jammed on?

I have a 1993 ford explorer 2wd. It has about 275,000 miles on it. For some reason my transmission fluid is leaking into the engine oil. When I noticed that my transmission was slipping, I put a qrt. of...

If you have a vacuum modulator on the trans,it could have a bad diaphram and **** trans fluid into the engine.
Now I do not know what model or unit trans you have. No vacuum mod, then the dealer is correct.
You can look just above the trans oil pan, near the rear, for that part and easily change yourself. Get at auto parts store. It will be the thing with a 3/16 vacuum hose on it,going to a port or vacuum switch on intake manifold

My 92 ford is using excessive gas and has a bad gas smell with alot of smoke coming from tailpipe after i add gas

If the smoke comming from the tail pipe is black your running rich. If thats the case the entire fuel system has to be ckecked out. Injectors could be leaking, a bad pressure regulator, stuck return line ,a coolant temp sensor could be telling the ECU that the engines cold give her more gas. I don't recommend doing fuel service unless your qualified to do so for the obvious reasons.
If the smoke coming out of the tail is grayish you have a bad head gasket. If the smoke coming out of the tail is blue you have engine oil getting into the combustion chamber. keep me posted

My 1997 ford explorer overheated and the transmission slipped

Tranny fluid may have been contaminated with coolant since tranny cooler lines go to radiator or condensor.
I would fix your leak on radiator, then completely drain tranny fluid and filter and replace.
