How many miles did you drive, before finally getting home ? . Was it at night with heater on ? If the battery light was on at that time, you pulled ALL of the power out of your new battery. Need to recharge the battery, and most likely need an alternator. Hope this helps

The simplest things can cause the most trouble - I would start with a load test on the battery - may seem to be charged after using a battery charger, but can have plate connection problems causing failure under load.

Try a day time running light modual, these things are notorious for messing up,and since they are supposed to work when the car is charging it seems like the logical solution.

Starting/Alternator Gauge problems

It maybe as simple as corroded battery terminals. Somtimes they corrode between the post and the terminal itself. When you run light loads there is enough current passing through. When you crank the engine however, the large current flow will not pass. When you jump the car the clamps are biting on the outside of the terminal and current flows easy. Simply clean or replace the terminals and clean the posts as well to a silver shine and the trouble may go away

Check your battery fuse mine just also did that and it was the fuse under the hood. Location of fuse box is by the battery and it should be the big fuse close to the middle
