Most Ford products are designed so the seat belt latch by the center console moves with the seat. The bottom of the latch rides on the seat rail, and with time sometimes it builds up a little play on the rail. As the seat moves forward or back, the seat belt guide often tilts forward or back, just a bit, on the rail, and gets stuck. So you can move forward or back just a bit, but then it jams and you can hear the motor, but can go no further.

The long term fix is to remove the seat, disassemble the seat belt guide and rail, and usually replace some parts.

But the short term solution is often to simply hold on to the seat belt latch and rock it forward and away from the seat as you try to go forward or back. Or, sometimes it works best to rock it backwards and away from the seat as you try to move forward or back. It all depends on which way it is binding.

There's no guarantee that it won't jam again if you move it all the way back or forward, but once you find the right position to hold the seat latch in while moving the seat, you should be able to re-adjust it where you need it to be.

THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF THIS IS THE SEAT SWITCH (WIGGLE THE SWITCH WHILE YOU TRY TO MOVE THE EAT), IF THAT DOESN'T FIX IT U WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE POWER SEAT TRANSMISSION, A VERY EXPENSIVE PART, SO TRY THE SWITCH 1ST.

SOURCE: i have a 2005 ford expedition and the driver side power seat will only move forward on the left side the right side seems stuck. please help

There is either something wedged in the track causing the right side to bind, or the screw yoke is stripped/seized. I have dealt with this problem in the past and the only thing I could do was to find a seat base at a wrecking yard and swap the seat base frame. Or buy a brand new one. If you pull the seat out and inspect the rail, you might be able to fix it, but I would start looking for a used seat base as well.

I hope this info helps!

Controls on driver's side Power seats stopped working. Can not adjust seat at all.

The motors responsible for moving the seats are not being properly powered. The issue could be due to blown fuse, bad relay, bad connections, bad switches, ad infinitum. In short, any part in between the power source (battery) and the motor is suspect.

Get a hold of the wiring schematic for your car, study it, and get to work.

Driver seats mountaineer stop working, passenger power seats work

The next time the seat is inoperable pull the switch out and test it for a voltage signal that should be present when the button in question is operated. The switch is the most common issue that I have seen, but hold on replacing it until the switch is tested.
