The digital display on my radio fades off then comes back on in my 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac and I'm thinking it may be a 5a fuse causing the problem, however I don't know exactly where the fuse box is located and how to remove the fuse cover. The owner's manual is telling me it's under the instrument panel on the driver's side, but I can't seem to locate it.

It's behind the rear seat on the passenger's side in a small compartment

SOURCE: fuse box location for a 2007 explorer

It's behind a pop out panel. Look below the instrument panel on the drivers' side (just to the left of the steering wheel) on the bottom of the assembly.

2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac wires that I need to bypass to the aftermarket amp.

That usually causes a whole heap of troubles because the amp and radio are connected to the BCM and are part of the computer system. Things like turn signal clickers and door open chimes are actually part of the radio / amp system.

Suggest you have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Also do you hear any grinding noise ? I have seen a bad wheel bearing cause this problem . Unwanted ABS activation locks up the wheel . and the lights come on .

How do I remove the stereo from my 2007 Sport Trac?

  1. Lift the console lid.
  2. Take the two screws out from the front console cover. It is the cover that goes down around the shifter.
  3. Remove the cover by pulling up from the back.
  4. Next pull the front cover off from around the radio. This cover goes all the way down to the center console.
  5. Unlug all connections.
  6. Take the 4 screws out from around the radio that hold it in.
To install just repeat the steps in reverse.
