This indicator normally comes on for
a few seconds when you turn the
ignition switch to the ON (II)
position. If it comes on at any other
time, there is a problem in the 4WD
system. Take the vehicle to your
dealer to have it checked.
If the indicator blinks while driving,
the VTM-4 fluid temperature is too
high. Pull to the side of the road
when it is safe, shift to Park, and let
the engine idle until the indicator
goes out.
Continuing to drive with the VTM-4
indicator blinking may cause serious

Check the fluid level in the VTM4 (rear differential). It should changed at the first 15K then every 45K after that. Use ONLY Honda VTM4 fluid.
Many owners neglect the VTM differential and/or use the wrong fluid.
This is a basic step the service manual will delve much deeper but the average owner would not be well equipped to perform the diagnostics required and should seek a reputable mechanic if the fluid is not a problem.
Yes, they should read the owner's manual first, I did not mean to overlook the obvious.
most are not versed, here, they lost the operators guide, and can't read the FSM. most dont read first, then ask questions here. so.... as they used to say, "Take it to the man, who wears the STAR,...the bright red, Texaco star ...."."
