I have a 98 buick regal. it wont start. i have all lights, and radio and alarm bells and everything comes on except the engine, just like its not even connected to the key. then maybe an hour later or days later it will start right up. this time it wouldnt start and while trying to start it all the lights went out and key wont come out of ignition. would this be the ignition switch or starter?

OK, if your headlights come on bright then we can rule out the battery problem for now.

If your new battery is dead or the headlights are 'yellow' and not bright, then you may have a short in the electrical wiring.



Could you give more details as what it does when you crank it... is it a slow crank or normal, but won't start. In that case there are other issues.

nothing cranks at all. The radio comes on and the dash etc. the key turns all the way. We had a locksmith come out and he said it wasn't the chip in the key and checked out the ignition switch.
