SOURCE: 2002 saturn sl1 idle too high

Can be but also check and make sure there are NO vacuum leaks or broken vacuum hoses anywhere on intake. I would also suggest if engine light is on is to take this vehicle to an AUTO ZONE they will check by computer for this problem and let you know for FREE. When you get the code I would be more than glad to help you further. Don't guess you may be wasting money and time. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: i have a 2002 saturn

Cleaning it out has nothing to do with it. IAC does which happens to be mounted on it.

My 2001 Saturn sl1 will not start or stay running won't idle. I changed plugs wires checked fuel pressure and tps only thing left I can think of is map sensor. Any suggestions are welcome plz.

Have you removed and checked the IAC? (Idle air control)
Will it stay running when you manually hold the throttle? keeping the idle up?

99 sl1 with 1.9 has high idle and will not idle below 1200 in drive

remove the throttle body (4 bolts) and then remove the idle air control (bolted to the TB, between the firewall and the throttle body)-clean the TB, the Idle air controller and remove the Throttle Position Sensor (opposite the IAC) and clean it if necessary. The IAC carbons up on these cars, as does the Throttle body-I know, I have a 99 SL with 180,000 miles, it is almost like an oil change as they get older.

Saturn 1999 sl Engine has a high idle speed. How do I find, replace, inspect IAC?

The Idle Air Control valve is located on the throttle body. If you follow the intake tube from your air filter all the way back to the intake manifold, where the intake tube connects to is the throttle body. Remove the intake tubing and you can see the throttle body.

There are two sensors on the throttle body and a vacuum line. You'll see two harnesses going to the throttle body, one is the IAC.

However, a quick diagnostic check can be done without touching the throttle body to confirm your problem. If the car has a normal idle when initially started but then rises to a higher idle and stays there BUT then if you were to shut the car off and restart it and it comes back to normal that is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). This is also located on the throttle body (the other sensor to the IAC). If it is the IAC it will be high and maybe fluctuate a bit.

My 1999 saturn is revving very high when i am at a red light or stop sign, the rpms are about 2200

If the problem is fixed by turning the car off and then right back on and the idle levels back out then it is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It is located on the throttle body and is one of the two sensors (the other is the Idle Air Control Valve IAC).

Replace the TPS. If that does not work then replace the Engine Coolant Temp sensor. It is notorious to go bad and crack because it is plastic. That also effects your idle.

2001 Acura 3.2 CL Type-S TPS and Map sensor issues...

no need to replace the throttle body , and i think that you make a test before to buy any piece . disconnect the negative battery terminal few minutes, then connnect and start engine again, drive few minutes by observing the engine, if light comes again, replace only map sensor ,good luckl
