My saturn sl1 is being weird. Today it worked fine. I stopped to pay a soccer bill for my sons summer soccer team, and when I went to leave it wouldn't start. I mean nothing happens at all when I turn the key. The lights work, the windows work, the wipers works but no door locks, no chime, and ofcourse no starter.
I put my finger on the DRL relay in the fuse box under the hood and it seems to engage when I turn the key. I connected the s terminal on the starter solynoid and it turns to motor fine.
My brother hooked his batter to mine to see if it was a charge thing, but it didn't do any good. I checked all the IGN fuses, they all seem fine. When I push the door lock buttons, the relays inside the car don't seem to do anything. In the same panel as the relays for the door locks are 2 or 3 IGN fuses and the chime fuse. All of which test as fine.
The issue was the fuse panel junction block. I took off the cover from the drive side console, and was able to remove and reset the junction block. If the locking seems continuous and almost glitchy I would buy new locks for both front doors. If it seems to be one timing lock and not acting glitchy then it most likely is a interference with a security alarm at that point I would disconnect the fuse for pwr locks as a quick fix.
you may need a shim between your starter and the block. Most starters are ok, but some need shims so that the teeth on starter line up with teeth on flywheel. Starter is probably jammed
If you have a door window that works, then the problem with the other doors is in the motor or wiring to that motor. There is only one circuit breaker and one relay to all the door windows.
When my 2001 L200 did this it was the body control module. There is a button under the shifter boot that will allow you to put the car in gear. It did not effect the engine so you can drive it but it will do all kind of weird things with the lights, door locks, and gauges.
You need to find an authorized Saturn repair center or a good Chevy dealer. Some independents can fix it as well.
I had this same exact problem in a family member's Saturn. If you are opening the door with the key and not using the key FOB to unlock the doors, then the security system will not allow you to start the car. You will notice when this happens that the dome light will blink and you'll hear the relay in the BCM clicking.
In order to stop the security system from doing this: Make sure the car is locked with the key fob by hitting the lock button. Then hit the unlock button on the key fob once and then once again (I do it out of habit). Then open the driver side door, put the key in and it should start no problem.
it is possible that its set to do that, its called a afterblow option,so it turns off and on byitself as a way of keeping the evap core dry,,may be normal
