I have a dodge Dakota 92 LE v8 this problem has gradually gotten worse. it will fire right up the periodically shut down; now it wont start at all, then after replacing coil,crank position, cam position, repairing cracked wires; and still the truck would not start. towed the truck then tried to start it for the sake of it it started right up. drove to get gas and it was about 10mi. it died again to leave me walking. can anyone help?

I had a similiar problem, found the solution there. It was the wiring harnes on the drivers side under the hood, just above the wheel well. there are a cluster of wires in a bundle. I unpacked the bundle carefuly and sure enough the were two or three wires all coroded, had wite powder from corosion. repaired the connections and bingo. I posted details at dodgeforums.com. browse around there. I posted pictures as well. this is a common problem.

[email protected] fuel pump is located in the gas tank pop the hood to right of carb or left side look for a black cap that looks like a tire cap it will be on a metal pipe fuel pipe take it of have somebody try to start truck then push the little valve if gas comes out the pump is working if not fuel pump coil i think is mounted left side of motor as you look at it pull coil plug then take some rubber coated needle nose pliers hold near the coil look for blue ark remember this do not hold coil wire with bare hands or bare pliers it will shock you real good my buddy had just a bad coil wire so he got a whole wire set frm autozone they also have a web site autozone,com that will have trouble shooting for your truck let me no what happens

sounds like the distributor may be faulty and the timing is out.try moving the distributor.loosen off the lock bolt on the base and move it slightly.mark the original spot first.The other thing is make sure the plugs are the right type.platinum plkugs will not run in some engines.
the spark gap for the 5.2 is on the label under the hood.

most likely is the pick up coil in the distributor. easy to replace pull dist cap off and rotor button and there it is.
