2000 gmc jimmy has a squeal that elevates at higher rpm's. i have a new belt, idler pulley, and idle tensioner. and also the idler pulley still moves after tightening it to the max. i think its the water pump cause the screaming doesn't come from idler pulley, and from what i could hear it didn't seem like it came from the other pulleys.

If you have gears it could be the pilot bearing...When they go bad they make a noise...But whatever it is it's moving motor speed

SOURCE: Rattling & squeaking coming from front end of motor..

I'm takin a stabe at this one, I think it may be coming from your waterpump. Use a long piece of metal or a pry bar and place it on any part of the pump that you can safely put it while the truck is running. Put your ear to the bar and you should be able to tell if it's coming from there. Good luck!

SOURCE: serpentine belt slips off idler pulley

The A/C pully is supposed to spin freely until the AC is activated to run.. The cranshaft pully does not. Replace the tensioner pully. The belt has to fit in between the grooves on the pullys.

SOURCE: I need to replace a serpentine belt on a 2001 GMC

it is decieving. if the tensioner has an extension of about two inches from the base, it takes a 15 mm to lift it, be easy, make sure the wrench is not going to touch anything as you release it after taking the belt off

What happens when you're belt tensioner goes bad on a 1997 gmc Jimmy 6 cylinder put new plugs and wires it sounds like a lawn mower

belt tensioner doesn't have tension therefore serpentine belt sqeels unless its a idler pulley issue.

Tensioner bolt bottoms out on idler pulley (belt for Poly-V A/C & Idler) on 2000 Nissan Pathfinder SE

Pulleys also wear.
You've changed the belts - a workshop would then change that particular pulley, if asked to do so.

Start your engine, then put a few drops of water onto that pulley. Does the squealing noise disappear? If so, the pulley is slightly worn in the groove - and this happens to all vehicles.

Your option is to either replace that pulley or use a spray-on anti squeal compound.

I have a 2000 gmc Jimmy . I'm going to change the

Locate the idler pulley to the left of the crankshaft pulley. The idler pulley bolts to the idler arm. The idler pulley is replaced with the arm because they are sold as one unit.

  • 2 Place a 3/8-inch ratchet driver into the square hole on the face of the idler pulley and pull up on the handle. This releases tension on the Sonoma's serpentine belt. Pull the belt off the idler pulley, lower and remove the ratchet handle.
  • 3 Remove the two bolts that secure the idler arm to the engine block using a socket and ratchet, and discard the old idler arm.
  • 4 Place the new idler arm against the engine block and secure it using the socket and ratchet.
  • 5 Put the ratchet driver into the square hole on the new idler pulley, pull up on the handle and place the serpentine belt over the pulley.
  • 6 Lower and remove the ratchet handle.

Sqeaking from the accessory belt drive. could be a bearing in one of the pulleys, the pump, the alt or the belt tension has weakened. It occurs off and on, usually just off idle but sometimes at idle. Is...

common cause is the belt gets worn and stretched, yes the tensioner is suppose to keep its tension but also the tensioner gets weak and all it takes is a couple slips of the belt to harden and you will get a squeal. Spray WD 40 on tensioner, idler pulleys, alternator behind pulley, not on belt or where belt rides on pulleys but at all bearing locations. Did squeal stop? If not replace belt. Usually a chevy water pump will leak, or grind not sqeak unless there is rusty non lubricated so called coolant in it which 1974 maybe but 2007 na im sure you didn't neglect this baby. You can also inspect the belt carefully, possibly buy a can of belt dressing and spray belt but do make sure you use a ratchet and check your belt tensioner for smooth non sticky tension pressure.

When I raise the hood and with motor running looking to my left there is a belt running and a squeaking noise at idle coming from that area. The van is front wheel drive so motor sits in there sideways.

Has it just started with cold weather? Does it squeal at first then as the engine is revved, stop squealing.

If so its probably your alternator belt has worked loose and needs tightening. I'd check this out first, if you've not done it before ask a friend with some know how for guidance. But as a guide, there should be about an inch of give when flexed on the longest run between 2 pulleys, if more then probably needs tightening. If more than a couple of years old, replace with a new one.

If it still squeals after tightening/replacing, you could have a faulty water pump bearing or pulley bearing. Either would require replacement to pre-empt catastrophic failure and resultant engine damage.

Change the belt tensioner. It may be losing spring tension. Also belt dry out quickly try some belt dressing sold at any good outo parts store.
