Under drivers door on frame rail or over rear axle you will see fuel lines with a filter
You ruined the fuel pump
It needs fuel to lube & cool it
SOURCE: Gas Gauge not working
when the fuel pump was installed the gas tank sending unit was either jammed when put back in the tank, is defective, or the sending unit was no reconnected.

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank.Sit in the car.....turn on the ignition switch to run.....listen very closely to the rear of the car...or have someone kneel down by the back wheel.....you should hear a "prime cycle"......the pump running for 2 or 3 seconds if the key was off for 15 seconds before trying this.If you hear silence you most likely need a fuel pump. Before pulling the tank down....check for power on the gray wire at the fuel tank connector just ahead of the rear axle under the car.Check for power with a test light that will last for 2 to 3 seconds as you turn on the key to run.Power means you really most likely need a pump.No power means you may need a fuse or a fuel pump relay.

Is the security light active? If yes it will have to get reprogrammed by the GM dealer as GM has this as a propriatory system... Meaning no one else can work on it.

The fuel in the fuel tank also cools the pump during operation. The pump could have heated up internally, causing it to fail. I would recommend checking the fuel pressure with a gauge and be sure the fuel system is pressurized and not low. A fuel pump can still run and be heard, but at the same time, it also may not provide enough critical pressure to the fuel rail and injectors.
