I put my jeep in reverse it stalls. When i put it in drive it runs rough. It started when i would hit a bump it would act like it was gonna stall. Now its worse it will not go without jumping or missing real bad. 1992 jeep cherokee laredo 4.0.
It could be simple tuneup.. pull sparkplugs.. look at them.. if there wet.. flatened etc... this would be caused by a head gasket lesk..
I had same problems.. an found it was ovetheating. From head gasket leaking coolant into cyl.
Now it will do this all the time even during warmup.. at first mine just did it at idle.. pulled plugs.. foumd a soaked one.. an the more i ran it it flatened another.. got to point of doing wat yours is doing.
Now.. is there a engine light on?
If so you need to pull codes by old way counting flashes... or a scan tool.. either way..youtube/ google how to get engine light codes.. then google code..
now.. if you get a code as missfire #7. Coild just be a plug.. or injector..
injectors easy to test.. an sparkplug.. just pull outan check try new..
an injector or plug will cause missing.. ive had injectors on a 95 get cloged from rust in fuel rail...
But you say it comes when hitting bump? Thats a loose connection to sensor.. or possibly the ecu. Or a wire melted by the exhaust...because therr are 02's.. your crank sensor an cpl other that could have melted an wen you hit bump its shorting/unshorting against its own ground/signal wire.. or shorting to exhaust/engine..
But first check the simple.. like battery connections..wirs from battery to alternator..starter..grounds on body..frame.. while there cleanm with wirebrush...
then check plugs/wires.. make sure cap rotor are good..
And i would go thruogh every sensor comection.. unplug an clean.. an inspect.. also follow those sensor wires to main harness....make sure there covered. Not cracked..burnt..stripped like i said.. need mote info.. is there a check engine light? Is your temp am volt gauge working... does it do it all time? When warmed up?
theyve been known to burn the wires i mentioned..have loose connections..
Check your plug wires and it wouldnt urt to check the distibutor car and rotor
It sounds to me like your rpm is low which can be solved by takin intake off and sprayin carb choke cleaner into it. if that dont work your mass air flow sensor is probably bad. i had to replace 2 or 3 of them on my 99 cherokee

The jeep stalls only when under load and when in reverse. Runs fine forward direction.
