How do i change the manifold gasket on 1995 camaro

Intake or exhaust manifold? Intake manifold is gasket is a pretty big job that gets complicated even further with tight working quarters under the hood of a camaro. You have to remove the fuel injection system to access the intake. you may also have to remove some of the drive accessories, e.g, AC, alternator, etc. GM was using a two piece intake for a while. not sure if your car has one or not. you will need to get gaskets for the upper and lower intake. you will need a large assorment of tools and several hours to perform the task. Get a repair manual and look over the procedure before starting. Locate all the components the procedure mentions. Follw the instructions and take your time. Lay everything out in an organized manner as you pull it off your car. Keep everything clean and be careful not to drop anything down the intake ports...Reassembly is just the opposite, keeping things organized will save you time going back together. good luck. exhaust manifold will be a major pain in the backside. pay somebody if its the exhaust

EXHAUST MANIFOLD REMOVAL PROCEDURE

What part of the exhaust do you want to replace? If it is the exhaust manifold gasket, usually you don't need to touch intake, but it can be one of the most frustrating jobs if you haven't got the right tools. The right tools can twist and turn in the right places. If you haven't got the right tools , it can be easier to take both manifolds off to do job properly. More time to take intake manifold off , but less time in long run as you can access manifold/head surfaces if you haven't got right tools.

you do need to remove the upper intake plenum to replace the rear plugs. haven't found a easy way or special tool for the job.

Hello adamjerkins,

It is somewhat complicated to change the knock sensors. There are two of them and they are located under the intake manifold. The intake manifold must be removed. I would recommend tha you replace both while you have the engine apart.

What leads you to believe the knock sensors are bad, I've seen few bad knock sensors? The knock sensor issues more times than not have been caused by other problems.

After you remove the intake manifold disconnect the knock sensor connectors. Remove the bolts and the two knock sensors then replace with new knock sensors tighten the bolts to 15 foot pounds. Reinstall manifold. The total job for an experienced mechanic with tools is about 5 hours. Not a good job for a beginner.

You can purchase an intake manifold gasket set from a local parts store. It should have the upper and lower intake gaskets contained in it. I see you plan on doing the valve cover gaskets as well. It might be a good idea to replace the plugs and wires at the same time to save some trouble down the road. I would recommend doing the oil change and change the thermostat at the same time as well.

How hard is it to replace and how much will it

Not hard, just time consuming. It's only $12 a gasket. You will need an intake gasket to because that also has to come off. The trick is just to LABEL EVERYTHING before pulling all the parts off the manifold and heads. Make sure to drain the oil and antifreeze first and also disconnect the battery.

Coolant leak at rear of manifold

Hello glennjenkins: My name is Roger and I will help you. You did not say what size the engine was in your car? I will assume it is a 3.8 v-6.The problem most likely is the intake gasket. These engines were built with a intake manifold set made of plastic. Over time they will crack and start leaking. The fix is to replace the gasket set. You should change the oil and filter when changing the intake set. When you pull the intake you will have coolant run into the oil pan. Also when the gasket leaks it is possible for coolant to leak into the oil pan. To replace the intake gasket does require some special wrenches. Such as a inch pound torque wrench and a torques socket for a special headed bolt.

I know what the problem is. We need to replace the back gasket

this job is very hard and long and delicate. if your not careful it will take alot to get it working again. there is a diagram at autozone.com. goodluck and b careful
