My car overheated on the highway this morning. I never had prior issues with temperature, and then this morning the temp gauge shot up to the top. When I opened the hood, there was a lot of smoke coming from the driver's side by the radiator. I couldn't tell if it was coming from the radiator itself, or something connected to it. I checked the coolant levels a couple weeks ago, and they seemed fine. Does anyone know what could have caused this to happen? I'm now without a vehicle, and live almost 50 miles from work.

Sounds like you have air in your coolant system. Take it to a mechanic shop to have them bleed the cooling system. That should cure your problem. Hope this helps. :) Please rate this. James Booth

electical is hard to diagnose with out being there. i would treat each problem seperately. first you will need to test the engine temp gauge sending unit. in a dealership this is easy with a scanner they can run a sweep test to se if the gauges are responding.you don't want the engine to over heat if the gauge is not working. next problem the dome light should be easy to fixe does the dome light work with the dome switch?remove the bulb and with the doors open and switch on check for voltage, if voltage check connection and or replace bulb. if no voltage check fuses for voltage.last will need to have the dtc po243 checked out by a repair shop. i hope this will help.
