I ran my 2004 Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor out of gas, and it wont start for the very first time in 10 years-the first time ever!! In the 10 years I have owned my car(I'm the first and only owner) it has ALWAYS STARTED UP RIGHT AWAY!! This amazing car has never broken down on me! I feel horrific, I caused it to be in the condition it is ....I should of never ran it out of gas- Amazingly the car got me all the way home b4 running out of has! In fact I didn't know I ran the car out of gas, sure the dummy gas light was on the night i ran it out, but it made it all the way home and in the morning is when i realized it had ran out of gas. I tried starting it and clearly it was out of fuel. Im frustrated it wont start, so I thought I better check to find out if anyone knows how many gallons of gas is required in the tank of my car, to start it if its been ran out if gas??? I put in 2-3 gallons at most and tried starting it numerous times....do u think its still out of gas or I ran it out again ???? Does it take a certain amount of gas and special steps ??? Do I prime it?? Do I have the Benz roadside folks start it for me rather than do it myself??? Help please??? I don't want to waste time with the roadside service people but I will if its best for the cat!! Thanks for all your help R Vuu

Good chance that even on 4 gallons it may not start I would try for more, prime the fuel pump several times by turning the key on and leaving it on for around 5 seconds then shutting it off and repeating, obviously not trying to start. I've had cases where even small FWD cars won't start even on 4 gallons on a 12 gallon tank. The newer fuel pumps are a closed system that only allow a small portion of fuel into the pump housing to keep contamination down. Let me know if after adding a few more gallons it won't start we will trouble shoot from there. Thank you for using fixya.com

check your volt gauge on the dash. if it's working properly, then your car is throwing a bad code. if the battery looks as though it's taking more than 14 volts, or less than 10, you have a problem.
