2000 jeep grand cherokee limited starts in 3rd gear

My 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited starts in 3 rd gear. I have to manual shift it to drive. The overdrive button does not seem to work also. could that have something to do with it, also the transmission light is on. I received an error code P0753. Can someone help me

    My 01 Jeep grand Cherokee Limited is doing the same thing! When I shift into drive from Park it always starts in third gear. I can manually shift from 1st to 2nd and then into drive without a problem. Just replaced the speed sensor, about 18 bucks from advance auto but no solution! Still starting out in third gear. Transmission fluid OK! My tranny light also comes on but not always! Anyone know what to do! Maybe just need to buy new Tranny!

    Does the 2000 jeep grand cherokees have an electrical problem? Not only does my car start in 3rd gear. Now the oil pressure drops to 0 and the check guage lite comes on when you come off the highway, as soon as you speed up and goes back to normal. I do not need oil and just change the filter, also makes a weird noise when you lock the doors and the passenger door does not unlock.

    1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It began in 2006 with the oil pressure dropping after exiting the highway and then stalling out...unless you speed up. Now experiencing the P0753, 3-4 shift solenoid relay condition. What do I do? Wife and child are usually in this car and the check engine light comes and goes.

    check that neutral safety switch is adjusted properly. code relates to shift solenoid or relay problem but if not properly adjusted may be an incorrect code.

    The console light that shows Drive, Reverse, Neutral,etc is out.

Oil pressure problem should be checked independently of other problems...Use a good accurate mechanical gauge to check. If pressure is good (no less than 15psi at idle hot (I prefer to see at least 20) check dash grounding, block ground and if OK, change sending unit. Dash and body ground can influence operation of shift and body control modules so indirectly your problem may or may not be related, depending upon what you find while testing. And it could turn out to be a defective module! They are expensive and just plugging new ones in may work, but then again, it might not. I might be totally incorrect on this...that's the value of actually being there instead of doing this by "remote control".
If you read the numerous posts pertaining to all vehicles, you will see that you are not alone with electrical problems...As long as the engineers who design this stuff, keep using "modules" to replace ordinary simple and reliable systems, we will continue to have these problems. Do some testing and I'm sure you will find a solution! (I'm still waiting for someone to make a program for a PC that will give a complete readout of every system in a vehicle, including exact faults instead of general system "suggestions")

HAD SIMILAR PROBLEM THAT WAS THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE THAT WAS DEFECTED THE NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH WAS FINE AND THE SPEED SENSORS WERE ALSO FINE

Hi, Your like your jeep is in limp in mode, this is to keep you from burning up transmission and to get you some were off the road, the p1768 code means A/T Transmission Relay Output Always Off. This should be checked out by your local shop or dealer. but you should make sure that the fluid level is correct, if to low there is not enough fluid pressure for the solenoid's to engage the relays. My transmisson makes a weezing sound when im at low speed


You sure its the transmission? Wheezing sound is usually the catylitic converter becoming plugged. Also...at 3-5K rpm you are not idling, you are reving the engine...(in that case, trans may be slipping or flairing between shifts, unless the unit is staying in one gear and just delaying shift till you reach that rpm. actual shift point should be close to 2,000rpm) I'd check the cat first.

Transmission problem


I had a shifting problem. The car would start in the wrong gear and shift at wrong times. I repaced the governor postion sensor and tranny fluid and the problem has been fixed for several years. Did you replace the tranny fluid?
