Looking for the procedures to relieve the fuel pressure in a 2000 Chevy venture. I'm about to change out the Fuel pressure regulator but i'm not sure how to relieve the fuel pressure in the system prior to disconnecting.
Use the pressure test port on the top of the engine, it is on the fuel rail that supplies fuel to the injectors, looks like a tire valve, will have a plastic cap on it.
Locate your fuel pump fuse in the under-hood electrical center. Start the van ( cold engine ) and remove the fuse. When the engine stalls, the fuel pressure will have been depleted in the rail. You will have a small amount of residual fuel in the line but no pressure. Place a rag under the regulator to catch the dripping fuel.
Pull the fuse or relay for the fuel pump, and crank the engine - this will take the fuel pressure down to almost nothing. You can then put a rag over the Shrader valve on the fuel rail (looks like a tire valve with a metal cap), press the valve in, and bleed any remaining pressure there.
Hope this helps, please rate :)
