The number
one plug is the first one facing you on the right and the last plug to
fire is the first one facing you on the left. The rotor button spins
counter clockwise.

Looking at the motor............Coil packs will be to the rear, Starting from the left side it will be.
#1 will be cylinder 5&2
#2 will be cylinder 3&6
#3 will be cylinder 4&1
looking at motor it will be as following #1 # 3 #5
The majority of owners report their Corsica as having an Inline 4 Cylinder(L4), 2.2 Liter engine in it. There was the option of a 6 Cylinder(V6), 3.1 Liter engine for that year/model as well. These were/are both Gasoline/Petrol motors.
Above the photo are 2 PDF documents. The first - Routing Guide gives you the diagram code for the car and engine. See page 30 for the 89 CHEV Corsica 2 liter. There are 2 belts - one for the air conditioned equipped engine (diagram 6-3) and one without the aircon (diagram 5.3).

Cylinder number: 1-2-3-4 from passenger to driver's side
From the coil from fire wall to radiator: #1 coil 4-1 #2 coil 3-2
