Truck would not start and battery is fine and charged. Bought a new alternator and put it in and truck still wont even make a noise. No whirr no click nothing. So the battery and the alternator are good. The lights come on in the dash and the door buzzer sounds cause door is open. BUT NOTHING! Wont even jump off with another truck.

    What kind of truck?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

You should be getting 12v to the small wire on the starter with the ignition switch turned to the "start" position. If not, assuming that you checked the battery cable connections at both ends (not just at the battery), you will need to check any relays and ignition switch. (You are listed as a truck...& a 01 grand am...I'm confused) If there's power at the small wire, you need to replace your starter.

71 c10 not staying charged... new battery alternator fuses good and new voltage regulator

Maybe it wasn't running long enough to charge up the battery?
Stop trying to jump it, when you are having problems with it dying, take the battery off and have it charged. And/or buy a $20 voltmeter to see what the battery shows. If it says less than 12 volts, it is discharged, and needs charging. A good battery that is not run down should have at least 12.5 volts. A new battery that is charged should have very close to 13 volts, maybe 12.8 volts.
When you have the truck running, check the alternator for charging. You put the voltmeter right on the battery and check it again. This time, with truck running, battery should show at least 13.5 volts. That shows the alternator is working. A good alternator will put out about 13 or 14 volts-the regulator will keep it from going any higher to prevent problems, like a melting battery or electrical parts burning out.
I would say get the charging system working right, then address the problem of dying at stop lights. That could be a carburetor problem, if the alternator is working.

Have someone check the charging system on the truck. The light comes on when the alternator is not charging the battery.
Could be a wiring problem between the alternator and the battery.

Truck is draining charge and not charging battiers

I just went thru same thing with my 2003 f-350 diesel. I hooked up my horse Trailor and drove to Von's parked went in came back out and truck was dead. I tried to jump it didn't work. Then over next two hours two tow truck Drivers hooked up to both batteries full power charge direct to my truck and would not start.
End story required two new batteries alternator and cilanoid discussed above. In other post. Also contributing to the cause was really badly coroded cables they looked good at the connection point but wher discovered to be coroded inside the tubing just above the end connections so bow it has all been replaced and I have had no trouble since. Hope this helps. Tanya

A few days ago my serptene belt flew off. I replaced the next day, then i had to replace the tensioner pulley. I started the truck and every thing seemed fine. Then i turned the truck off and inpected...

you could have an alternator problem, I am wandering if the serptene belt is on properly or tight. if the belt is slipping and not turning the alternator pulley then it will not charge you battery and if you drive it the new battery will go dead and the alternator is not charging it so it will not start.
i would charge the battery and start the car and watch the belt and the alternator and see if the pulley is turning, they will also make a squelling sound if loose.
hope this helps

Truck wont start .

Check the positive battery wire going down to the starter I ran into problems with them having corrosion on it. I would replace it. Cost about $50 or you could make one yourself for $12.
