I bought my Mercury Villager used with 106K miles on it and I have never replaced the fuel filter. Now there are about 133K miles. I am the third owner and don't know how much maintenance the previous owner did. Is it a simple replacement? Is it OK to have it done at a Jiffy Lube place?
Actually the fuel filter in the villager is rather large compared to some gm's and imports that are the size of a shot glass.
If the vehicle is running well and not stumbling, misfiring.
I'd leave it alone. Replacing a fuel filter for the first time at or above 100,000 miles may cause a fuel pump failure. Not sure why, other than over time the filter becomes restricted and the pump has to work harder to push the fuel through the line. When a new filter is installed, the pump can't handle the free flow, and it stops pumping. Weird but have seen it more than I like to say.
Jiffy Lube is OK but be prepared for a up sell on a fuel system clean.
A local service station that friends or friends of friends have used and can refer you to would be a good choice.
They will give you a quote for the filter and labor... just ask.
Best to you.
P.S. It's about a 20 minute job.
here's a idea of the part online...
i picked a 2002

Ok a car that you got used is never a bad idea to replace the fuel filter it is basic and low cost more importantly you should look up the year make and model and perform the required listed maintenance, when you get a used car like i always do you should get up to date on all required fixes because if you want ti to last and you care you never can be sure if the old owners took care of this stuff.-
