Where is the knock sensor on an 01 suburban with a 5.3 liter?

No a knock sensor can not make a misfire. Check the coils, plugs and fuel pressure .The random misfires are cause the knock sensor to throw the code.

two knock sensors.under phlemm assy. replace cover gasket, two sensors and wire harness.

Sounds like the Knock sensor bolt has been over torqued.

Sounds like you have a timing issue with the truck. Could be your ecu or the sensor(s) that feed data to your ECU.

Its the crank sensor. There was a recall a few years back for 2001 8.1 liter engines crank sensor. Engine would shut off perodically and sometimes would not restart untill cool. Plus it just happened to mine. about a 350 dollar dealer fix.

Sorry to say it sounds like the motor is gone. Higher oil pressure when the oil is cold is normal. But, when the engine gets to operating temp and the pressure bottoms out and the engine knocks you have big problems. If the mileage is very high (150,000) or more your bearings are so worn that the oil can't fill the void between the surfaces and thus the low oil pressure.

Rob, it sounds like a throttle position switch to me. My 95 suburban with TBI had a similar problem and that fixed it. You may need a volt/ohm meter to rig it if you don't have a code reader that will monitor the values. I think the switch was about $25. Not sure if yours has a TBI or carburetor.
