Having a new problem with my 1993 Saturn SL. Other day it was verrrry humid, and for the first time I had the car stall at a light. It would start back up, but wouldn't continue running unless I gave it a lot of gas. Had to go home using neutral and gassing it at stops (run fine as long as I was accelerating). Then again last night at a light, has been very damp for last week, it stalled out and behaved the same way again. This time when it stalled the emergency blinkers both came on dull, which I thought odd. Any suggestions. Had run fine, though the idle has seem intermittently high/low.
Hi, I have almost the same problem with my 93 Saturn. As soon as I bought it (used) a few months ago, it's had this issue. Let me give you all the symptoms I suppose. The car runs like it has a loss of power or torque first of all and occasionally it bucks like the transmission is having problems... well, that is ALMOST bearable except that my ex girlfriend had the same car and I know it should have more balls than what I'm getting out of it.
The other problem first happened when I was driving up to Seattle (about 70 miles away). I had been driving for a nearly an hour when I noticed the car sputtering and then it started to stall going 60+ on the freeway. All the dash lights came on, and I was luckily able to get off at the nearest exit (which happened to be MLK way, great!). The car was ALMOST responsive to me gassing the hell out of it, but eventually just gave in to the stalling. I believe at the time it would turn over but wouldn't stay idled unless my foot was to the floor, and even then the results were temporary. Half hour later I was able to make it 10 miles down the freeway to my sister's house no problem. So AAA later, I'm back down in Olympia (no more long drives until I can take it in I say), driving around town running errands and after about an hour or so the same thing happened- loss of power, sputtering, dashlights, dead. 10 Minutes later it will let me go down the road but with similar results. A few weeks later on a particularly sunny day, it quit after just 5 minutes the same way, starts sputtering and stalling, dash lights come on, it bucks a little, and then cuts out. I've decided it HAS to be temperature related, at least partially, right? Overheating?
After MUCH investigating, I came across someone who said to replace the coolant temp sensor, it apparantly has two wires- (advance auto part # 38-5146). I have not done it yet, but it sounds like a good place to start? I think it controls when the fans come on, which was suggested to be near red line at factory settings.
As far as the bucking and power loss, I'm not sure if you experience this at all but in my research it sounds like it could be the power train control module (PCM) which contols the EEPROM. If you have an automatic as I do, it controls both the engine and trans axle controller.
From similar research I have heard to: do an acid flush on the radiator, pull and clean the gas tank, clean the throttle body, and rebuild the engine because the piston rings are bad... I hope it doesn't come to that!

First, if the SES light is on or comes on a little after it is running it has a code set in the computer. Itis easy to read the code on an OBD1 system by jumping the A-B terminals on the DLC Data Link, block under the drivers side see the following link for better explanination of reading the codes, http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/
Also review the following on the O2 Sensor and coolent temp sensor http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37884http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ9vtD_ssjg, good luck you can fix this vehicle easily.

Sounds like about the right distance for the system to go into close loop.Use a good scan tool to check parameters of the system to locate the failing sensor/item when it stalls.
did your mechaniic check the fuel injectors, it very possibly could be 1 of them acting up, also have your mechanic to give your vehicle a fuel pressure test, this will tell if the pressure is within the specs for the year and engine size that you have. also have him to check the coil, or coils, 1 of them could be heating up, and breaking down, and after cooled for a while, they have been known to work again, untill they heat up again. also have him to check the fuel pump relay to see if it is getting bad, he might have to tempoarily replace it with another one just to see if it is acting up.
sounds like you have some bad injectors. if your smelling fuel it sound like one of them are stuck open. that would cause it to run rough. i think the injectors are like 35 each i would put them in and run a fuel system cleaner and put a new fuel filter when you do all that.. if you do it yourself it should run you about 180 to 200. Its not that hard to do. If a shop was to do it it could cost up to 500
Fuel pump,Fuel pump, Fuel pump,,, high mile cars will always out live their fuel pump. The stalls will become more frequent. But first change fuel filter if it has one outside the fuel tank, if it has it in the tank just replace the pump at the same time. Also next time when it stalls bang the bottom of the tank with your hand and try starting.
