Can you smog your vehicle with the airbag light on in California?

It won't pass smog in California because the 1st thing a smog tech does it check for fault codes on the vehicle's computer with a scanner.

if your talking about a catalytic converter then no but you can notify an inspection station an make inquiries about California vehicle emissions and requirements

Was your vehicle purchased new in California? If it did not come with one from the factory when new.. they cannot require you to update to something that does not exist!!!! Get a hold of the local GM dealership (Chevy).. and see what was available.. there should be someone there that knows the california smog law...

Because the states have the same laws regarding emission certification. So New York just uses the Calif. certification for New York vehicles. How do I know this?? I was a the holder of an unlimited Calif. Smog inspection license.

Next to the hose routing, there should be a VECI label -the Vehicle Emission Control Information label. If your particular vehicle had a smog pump, the label will definitely list it. As for other models, I don't Know, probable that back then some did and some didn't. California requirements were always stricter than other states.

Well yea. The ck engine light is telling you that you exceed 1.5 pollution limit. can you get the code and tell me what it is. If the ck was on when you get there yes they run the vehicle then fail it under function test. If it comes on during the test then no you dont fail but they are not allowed to turn it off. And plus your in california $ 4.50 a gallon whenever that light is on its $ 4.50 in the air

You will never pass a smog test if a check engine light is on. The light being on says you failed before they did anything to your vehicle. Take the vehicle to your local autozone. Autozone will scan the vehicles computer and get the codes that are causing the issue, and they will do it for free. After you make the repairs, you will need to get the computer reset. Autozone will also reset it for you for free.
