Check the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure). The ECM (car computer) uses that to keep idle at minimum 750 RPM. It's normal for it to run high when cold. These small 4 banger motors typically run hot, and they won't run right IF they're NOT running hot, ergo the idle is usually high when it is cold so as to cause it to warm up quicker. If the RPM's drop below 750, suspect the MAP sensor, &/or ECM.

SOURCE: Car starts poorly during cold mornings. The idle

Sounds like a cold start valve (which is actually an additional injector in the intake to assist in cold starting) If you can get it to your local prts store while the light is on they will read the codes for free and tell you what the car thinks is amiss.

SOURCE: 97 2.2 cl high idle, self rev, overheat, started same time

i cannot specifically point out what the problem might be, but an overheating car---never a good thing. check everything related to cooling. fans, radiator, hoses, waterpump, coolant overflow tank(see if its got a brownish color or looks like there is oil), and check your oil while your at it...

1995 jeep gr cherokee laredo jumps when first star in morning and runs rough when ac or heat on

my guess, car unseen.
car has an A/T trans, and all A/T jump from park to drive
selection is made on a cold engine, due to the very fast idle speed.
what was the park and cold idle speed. and out door temps.
the lower out door temps, make idle speed , cold engine, even higher
but when the engine reaches 180F or more and holds, the RPM
is about 800 RPM (the FSM tells the exact amount and does vary for the unstated engine option) so at 800 the tranny don;t lurch, did it on a hot engine. so if idle speeds are wrong say so and say it with engine temps. or its all meaningless.
next :
runs rough, the engine (even parked?) is called misfire.
misfire on a good engine (full compression)
is:
1: bad spark (or never had a tune up ever) every 60k miles.
2: bad fueling. too rich, too lean (low idle) bad injectors (stuck or clogged, or wrong fuel pump pressure or bad Fuel pressure regulator)
3: bad fuel.

there is a test for each possible failure. all very simple test.
it takes $80 in gauge tools to find engine problems.

Coaster idling high and high fuel consumption

Water temperature is low cost oil is certainly the easiest way is with a hard shell to block part of the warming effect of the radiator well as for how much you want to try to stop. Idle temperatures will rise up relatively low. What is the pull speed? Not run fast but continues to run uninterrupted some time. Usually two hours can be. Is to allow the engine to reach full swell purpose. Such a shift is to be based on the vehicle speed and the reference engine speed. Not based on the engine speed. Driving is probably the single 30 towards third gear, fourth gear towards forty, fifty five-speed ahead. Many people on the car ahead of change. As long as the engine sounds smooth, no trailer can be.

Increase then decrease idle when engine is cold especially

cold engine idle surge. (problem)
RPM range of surge not stated
300-700 or 800 to 1500? (range is critical to diagnosis)

bad fuel
running summer fuel in winter (running old fuel?)
needs a tune up bad, see the list in the operator guide.
idle speed controller, sticking or EGR valve same. (clean them)
location not stated, so cant guess about local air temps.?
no other symptoms, lack of engine power? etc?
was it ok last week, or better, when was the last time it was OK?
1week, 1year?
surge , causes, on a tuned engine might be:
1: too lean. so lean the ISC can not control idle. rpm low, stalling
2: too rich, flooding, stalling, spark plugs foul (look at them)
3: weak compression in 1 or more cylinders.
4: bad spark.
5: air leaks, in the plenum causing , ISC to lose control.
why high RPM?

especially?
well that means it fails hot too.
and there is a simple tests. for hot surge.
is engine fully hot? 180F and holds solid there?
say rpm is about 800
and you turn on head lights, heater fan and (not AC) and defrost.
the RPM must hold or the ISC is failing.
ISC -= idle speed controls. (all EFI has this function)

IDLES FAST WHEN STARTED, FOR 5 MINUTES THEN DROPS

It's the choke doing tis job. It reduces the amount of air to the engine to help it start/warm up. As the engine reaches a good operating temp it will drop the RPM's. Some times they do get stuck, so some cleaner wouldn't hurt. Spray it into the throttle body while the engine is running. Also the O2 sensor could be bad.

Engine stalls

my friend had one that did the same and he replaced throttle positioning sensor and it fixed it. but when you put a new battery in them they wont idle until you hold at steady low rpm for almost a minute because it has to relearn its position. so check your voltage meter and make sure it is around 13-14 volts when running and not on 12 while running because it could be too low of voltage for it and would be the same principle as disconnecting the battery because it takes 12 volts to keep computer on. hope I wasnt too confusing but I just want you to check your voltage for free before you buy electrical parts.
