97 Chevy Astro van lugs, like it misses, B4 finally cranking on

97 Chevrolet Astro van 2wd. When I start it, it acts like the battery is almost dead- lugging, sluggish, missing kinda sound and feel.

But the battery cranks pretty long until it starts. I replaced the timing chain. Do I need cam and crank position sensors, or cap & rotor?

I had a buddy check a constant-on 'check engine' light with OBD2 meter. A Diagnostic Trouble Code of p1345 showed up. Are the position sensors easy to change?

Yes, mechanic checked too. Dots aligned vertically with shaft.

Thanks carhob, I replaced the cam sensor and that wasn't it. It was the distributor out quite a bit. That cleared the engine trouble light and starts clean now.

Sidenote, I had a DTC trouble code when I checked it without the air filter in. MAF air sensor was ok but p0102 code threw me.

are you sure when you installed your timing chain marks on gears were well aligned?

Crank shaft sen. is easy enough to change.its mounted near timing chain cover,cam sen.is somewhat harder,its in the distributor,id doubt that both are defect

Could be low fuel pressure. Should be 50psi min.

1999 Chevy astro van won't start

Had the same issue with our 1999 chevy astro van, would crank but would not start. It had been raining and windshield had a leak, after 2 days of no rain it started. Pulled codes and was the Security system in the ignition switch. Hope this helps.

I turned my 1992 chevy astro van off now it will not start..I replaced battery and starter. It urns over slowly like it has a dead battery but won't start.

You are going to want to check your engine pullys. I replaced battery and starter before I figured out my AC was froze up. If that belt dont turn it will not start. Or even crank over.

97 Chevy Astro will not start

Sounds like your battery / starter may be dead. Do you get a clicking sound at all? A click will indicate a dead starter, a buzz indicates battery issues.
