Need to fix the check engine code problem first -if u reset it u wil have to wait till the sensors reset [o2 sensors -cat conver--evap system-etc]these and the others take awhile to reset about 125 to 150 miles of driving have system read most auto stores can read and give u trouble code they can also reset [clear-erase] the code but if problem not fixed code will more than likely come back
Have you fixed whatever caused the code to come on?
If not you will not be able to clear the code and pass emissions.
Two reasons -
1. If the problem has not been repaired the check engine light will come back on.
2. Clearing the codes usual means that the OBDII monitors will also be cleared. There will be a code stored for this until the monitors are complete. If they see this co they know what you are up do and you do not pass.

i have a porsche that has "A/1" code that comes up but it gives it 3 times. prior to emissions i reset the obd and drive until i'm emissions ready. my code comes on after 100-200 miles so i can get away with it but if yours is a 02-cat-vap-condenser....then it won't work. if you do not have a tool i remember many gm's need the battery poles disconnected and + with minus - touching together WITHOUT BATTERY CONNECTED. it takes a good 15 minutes but longer will not matter. i have done this on my chevy and saturn without any problems.

First, please review this article: Where's The Fuse?
I seriously doubt that your problem is being caused by a fuse. Your Passive Restraint System has a problem. This could be caused by a driver's airbag, a passenger airbag, a seat belt pre-tensioner, a contact assembly in the steering column, or any of the crash sensors. To find out what the problem is, you must scan your Passive Restraint (or Airbag) module to retrieve fault codes. The only thing I can tell you for sure without properly diagnosing your vehicle is that your airbag system will not function in the event of a crash. The system is designed to disable itself any time the warning light is illuminated. This is to prevent accidental deployment of the airbags due to a malfunction in the system.

if the error/problem was fixed then system will reset on its own(after key is cycled a few
times)it can also be reset at autozone with a scanner for free
