OIL IN ANTIFREEZE

For thesecond time i have oil in the antifreeze and lowon dipstick, I dont believe its headgasket cause no water in oil. last time guy did test said no head gasket problem and flushed system ran fine and stayed 1/4 gauge for temp in arizona heat, all of a sudden Im at half and check reservior and comes out like chocolate milk. some are suggesting oil cooler. is the oil cooler in the radiator and is the only fix a new radiator I have a problem with my 95 Olds 88. The car runsgreat, but there's sludge in the rad and holding tank mixed in with the coolant. I checked the oil dipstick for traces of coolant. Clean. I'm having trouble believing the head gasket is blown, as the car only has 110,000 kms. Are cars that cheap?

    There's no coolant in the oil. And no smoke comes out of the exhaust. I bought this car last fall. I'll start by flushingthe coolant, and change the engine oil at the same time soon.

    I checked today, and it seems to be missing a litre. sorry, but on my inquiry, somehow it got mixed in with another person's post!?! My post starts at where it says "I have a problem with my 1995 Oldsmobile 88".

    Thanks! It kinda looks like what you describe. I checked today, and it does seem like the antifreeze is very dirty, with a little sludge-like substance floating on top. Dexcool, do they put that in at the factory?

    Thanks! I can't rate "fix ya" until I thoroughly cleaned the rad and tested. I'll get back soon with the results.

    is the oil dipstick low on oil.if so it sounds like the radiator.

If this is dexcool antifreeze and it has never been flushed after time it will gum up and turn brown if this is the case have your coolant system power flushed I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS WORK FOR MANY YEARS AND HAVE YET TO SEE A 3.8 MOTOR HAVE A CRACKED BLOCK!

I have a 2003 Buick Century Custom and I had my anitfreeze flushed because a mechanic at Sears said it was like a choclate shake when they checked the antifreeze level, now I am a girl and have no interest in how the car's motor works, so I had it "flushed" for 90 dollars... now it is 6 weeks later and I went to my father's friend who owns his repair shop and has done all my parents car repairs for 25 years and he says it is like that again... he told me I needed a new radiator because the oil is mixing with antifreeze and vice versa... so we replaced the radiator and now the car works fine and has ever since he did that... he said my head gasket was fine... just thought I would share this info.... I dont know if every car is different I am assuming that every situation is different...

Hi there, i hate to pass on bad news like this but, you are experiencing the first stages of a cracked block. these cracks start off as being microscopic but, during great heat, these cracks will grow, fusing the coolant and oil. this is why you are seeing a milky fluid. this repair can be expensive and i don't recommend block sealer. it only prolongs the inevitable.

Actually this happened to my 1999 Sl1. Sorry to say bot the head gasket didn't work for me so I took it to the shop. Cracked Head was the problem.

Over heating problem

Check the oil dipstick. Some older GM engines have a history of headgaskets. This will be evendent if there is antifreeze mixing with your oil. Has the thermostat ever been changed? Or the waterpump?

Antifreeze in reservoir is black in color what cause this?

It sounds like there might be engine oil in your antifreeze. If it is oil, then you probable have a blown headgasket. when was the last time you got your coolant flushed and replaced? it could just be old antifreeze. Also, check your engine oil level.

White smoke is caused by water and or antifreeze entering the cylinder, and the engine trying to burn it with the fuel. The white smoke is steam. There are special gaskets (head gaskets are the primary gaskets) that keep the antifreeze from entering the cylinder area. The cylinder is where the fuel and air mixture are being compressed and burned. Any amount of antifreeze that enters this area will produce a white steam that will be present at the tailpipe area.

If white smoke is present, check to see if the proper amount of antifreeze is inside the radiator and the overflow bottle. Also check to see if antifreeze has contaminated the engine oil. You can look at the engine oil dipstick, or look at the under side of the engine oil filler cap. If the oil is contaminated with antifreeze, it will have the appearance of a chocolate milkshake. Do not start the engine if the oil is contaminated with antifreeze, as serious internal engine damage can result.

How did antifreeze get in the oil or cylinder in the first place? The engine probably overheated and a head gasket failed due to excessive heat, thus allowing antifreeze to enter the cylinder (Where it is not meant to be).

Noticed what looks like lithium grease inside the oil fill cap while i was changing the oil..what is it????

this means that you have a headgasket leak flush the system take out the antifreeze fill with just water put in a bottle of block seal / headgasket sealer run the engine for about 3 to 4 hrs then flush out the system again and fill with antifreeze (remember that block seal will clog your system (if) you don't get all the antifreeze out ( read the label on the bottle (autozone carries block seal) about 25;00 bucks

OIL IN ANTIFREEZE

Everyone automatically assumes that oil and water mixing means a blown head gasket or cracked engine block. Of course common sense is usually not that common. Oil in coolant is a different problem than coolant in oil. The former is a low pressure leak, and could indicate only an intake manifold gasket. It could also be an early or small head gasket leak. Coolant in oil is usually a cracked block or torn head gasket, and has concomitant symptoms of white exhaust smoke and milky oil on dipstick. If you replace the head gasket and the problem persists, an intake gasket could have fixed the problem.
