SOURCE: 99 gmc jimmy transmission slipping
hi check the colour of your transmission fliud is it should a medium red if it looks dirty brown or any other colour that would suggust your clutchs are slipping if your transmission fluid is low or over filled it will cause your problem you can drain your fluid remove your lower sump pan clean the boxes main body and filter replace the oil and try there is no gaurentee it will work but this is a basic you can do and these type of repair can resolve your problem if the fliud is brown then this and an adjustment of of the boxes clutchs and bands must be done this can be done with the transmission in sitution there are other things that can cause the problem but these are well worth doing first as it will not cost a fortune and has a good chance of success yates210456
SOURCE: transmission - no reverse
i had to put a new trans in my 2000 jimmy about a year ago there is something inside called a "reverse hub" its made from aluminum and not very hard to break..when mine broke i was stuck trying to move in reverse and it heard a pop then a winding down noise and sure enough its the reverse hub to fix it i just had the trans rebuilt
SOURCE: My reverse went out but only go forward!
Arthur,
Shouldnt be a big deal.
Your shift linkage is probably bent.
You will need to go to a trans shop and get it fixed.
I highly recommend AAMCO since they warranty their work. They will have to "unbend" the bracket or readjust the cable play, or repair the linkage that places the car in the proper gear according to your indicator on steering column or dash.
Not a big deal...but then again you could have crushed the synchro gears, but i truly doubt it!
Thanks,
Mark

There isn't a modulator on this trans as it is electronic
You can have first gear going forwrd but no reverse. It is possible. The low/ reverse clutch isn't needed to go forward.
