It means the oil pressure is low and may be low enough to damage the engine if you keep drving/running the engine. it would help if you could tell us the actual oil pressure, engine and mileage . basically, the oil pressure may be low enough to wreck your engine, then again it may be bs......

SOURCE: I have a 2006 impala. On the highway the dinging

Hi stevie, your Impala probably has a defective sensor, often called a "switch" that senses the oil pressure. The oil light and chime is a result from a false signal from the bad sensor.
But one cannot take a chance. If the sensor is acting properly, and pressure is low, it could really damage your engine to have low oil pressure and oil not pumping properly. Have it checked now. A new sensor should cost about 60 dollars & takes only a few minutes to install.

Good luck. i hope this helps. Please rate me a FixYa.

SOURCE: I have a chevrolet impala 2008 some time gave this

hi,
this simply means the wheels are slipping and the computer is applying the brakes(trac) and reducing the accelerator (eng speed reduced) to try and bring the car back into control. It basically means its time for new tires or rotate the front ones to the back so the wheels slip less...

SOURCE: The "low oil pressure -

It could be. The best is just follow your instruction manual on what type the oil should used on your car. But since your car is has the year 2006, it should use specs. API... SL or SM. The viscosity will has range 5W30 -10W40. Again don't get be cheated by the newest oil products, The best oil for your car is the one recommended on your manual in many aspects.

SOURCE: reset message center window

THIS SHOULD HELP YOU

Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds. If the CHG OIL SOON light flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the key to OFF, then start the vehicle. If the CHG OIL SOON light comes back on, the system has not reset, repeat the procedure. Follow this procedure to reset the GM Oil Life System using the DE 100 Series Radio®. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON and the radio off. Press and hold the DISP button on the radio for at least five seconds until SETTINGS is displayed. Press the SEEK up or down arrow to scroll through the main menu. Scroll until OIL LIFE appears on the display. Press the PREV or NEXT button to enter the submenu. RESET will be displayed. Press the DISP button to reset. A chime will be heard to verify the new setting and DONE will be displayed for one second. Once the message has been reset, scroll until EXIT appears on the display. Press the DISP button to exit programming. A chime will be heard to verify the exit.

What does low oil pressure on 2008 Chevy Impala 3.5 V6 LS

Do you mean what causes low oil pressure? This is a very reliable engine for the most part. If the oil light is on or gauge is reading low, have the oil pressure sensor inspected for failure. These sensors do go bad.

Impala low engine oil pressure

Could be oil pooling in the valve cover caused by a partial blockage of the drain gallery, but you'd almost certainly get a oil low message too. I assume the oil and filter is changed regularly? You could try adding Marvel Mystery Oil, about 12oz for about a hundred miles and then change the oil and filter. Depending on your level of adventurism, you could drain the oil and replace it with new oil, except add a quart of automatic transmission fluid in place of one quart of oil. Some people say ATF is bad for seals, some people use ATF to rejuvenate leaking seals. I don't know who to believe. Run that for 100 miles and change the oil and filter. I've even seen someone replace their oil with kerosene and a quart of oil and run it at idle for 5 minutes, then change the oil and filter. Instantly freed 2 stuck lifters and the engine was fine.

Best bet would be to run the Marvel Mystery Oil first. Then, if the problem persists, either change the pressure sensor and see where that gets you or go for the ATF in the oil trick.

My impala keeps chiming and saying "OIL PRESSURE LOW, STOP ENGINE", i had an oil change done, and it still hasn't stopped.

A common cause to your problem is a faulty oil pressure switch. This monitors the oil pressure and when defective, can falsely trigger the low oil pressure light. If the switch is good, the oil pump may be bad. Listen carefully for "ticking" under the hood. This would be a sign of insufficient lubrication to the lifters/rocker arms.
