Bmw e36 door closed (will not open from inside or outside)

Initially I had a problem with the exterior door opening mechanism. It took me a while to get a new lock, so I was opening the door from inside. But now, it is closed and I cannot open it from inside or outside. I already removed the inside door panel but still have a hard time figuring out how the mechanism works. Not sure how to approach the situation. Please help.

There should be 2 metal rods , one pulls one push's , open and close , i would try spraying some lubricatant , wd40 , into the lock mechanism to see if that will free off the connections for these rods and just try to gently push and pull until get some movement , have you tried to open door with the key in the door lock and turned to open at the same time as pulling on handle ,hope this is of some help

open the bonnet remove the black plastic over on top of the grill and this reveals the back of the grills so you can push themout from behind and not damage the paint.

SOURCE: Central Locking not working

Hi Craig,
I'm running a E34 Tds Touring with a similar problem, my rear doors and tailgate have dropped of the central locking circuit.
I have been told it is the Central locking Module a large black box under the dash that is faulty, apparently a common problem.
Hope this points you in the right direction,
Please remember to rate my effort!

It could be the engine control module. Try to get a good used module from the junkyard and try your luck. All the best !!

I have replaced my 1993 318isa module two times myself!! GOOD LUCK!

SOURCE: e36 BMW convertible top operating it manually

Hey there, I have experienced the same problem. You need to reengage both motors if you have disengaged them pulling the lever undernearth the rear driverside seat. Make sure to put the black lever back under the seat to the position before pulling on it.

You should have the top in the down position before engaging the motors back in place.

To engage the motors: The motors are located under the carpet in the trunk on the driver side. There are two black clips you will need to remove in order to pull the carpet back. One of the motors is located near the taillight. This motor is responsible for the storage lid cover. The motor that is located further in the drunk is the motor for the fabric top to move up and down. Make sure to firmly press these motors back into place. They should not move.

Once you have engaged the motors, go into your car put the key into the ignition and have the convertible top button pressed up (meaning to close the top), move the key to the accessory positio and hold it for 10-12 seconds. You will finally see the trunk lid get pulled closed. The car will now attempt to completely close the lid. If your motors are working fine it will close. If your only intention is to get the lid to close on it's own it should be accomplished.

Good luck!

I have a 2004 bmw x5, that the 2 rear doors wont open from the inside or the outside after replacing the door handles.

I am not familiar with this model but have experienced a similar nightmare on a very model. I suspect that the child safety locks are set which is stopping you opening the doors from the inside and the outside handles are not working because the latches may have been set in the locked position.

Why cant i open my driver side door on my 2002 bmw 745i ?

If your exterior handle lifts up in a rocking motion, it could be the small rod and clip arrangement has become disconnected from the main lock actuator mechanism. This was a bear on my M3 to fix due to the limited working space near the handle. If you're comfortable with removal of the inner door panel, vapor barrier material and latching mechanism to attempt to fix be careful and good luck. Otherwise I'd suggest taking to a qualified body shop for assistance.

Buy something called a z-tool or call AAA and have them open the door for you.. A z tool took the place of a slim jim. It will not damage your car though...

Hi,
You have a problem in the window regulator assembly.
Go to a nearest garage and have check the window regulator, sounds like the gear mechanism have been nicked and releasing the window in heavy vibration.
Hope that helps!

I think the mechanism is broken, if I am not mistaken the exterior handle has plastic retaining clips that often break---a new exterior handle should do it, try to order by vin so it may come painted

BMW 1996 328i E36 cnvertible Driver side window will not go down and back up when door is opened and then closed? It did this once before but started working but now it has started again.

micro switch may have failed. have a very close look in the door latch fixed to the car...there should be a very small square pressable switch.. open the door and press your finger inside the latch against the little button, the window should drop and raise. If you dont have one there its on the inside of the door lock mechanism.
