Reinstall nut a little loose. Tap on nut while prying up gently on wiper arm. This is what is called a morse-taper fit, and can be difficult to break loose. Also try tapping on arm with a small hammer horizontally to break it loose.

You are on the right track. If you have removed that little cap, and unbolted the nut what you do is pull and wiggle. There is a special tool, but if you are persistent you can do it without the tool. A little WD-40 never hurts either.

Just pry on the side away from the arm with a small pry bar, or a screwdriver with a block of wood under it. Put a rag on the car so you don't scratch the paint. Wipers are spring loaded so that pressure is on the glass all the time. That pressure is just causing it to bind a bit. As soon as you pry, it'll pop off.

SOURCE: remove and replace wiper blade assebly 89 chevy silverado

there is a keeper on the inside of the arm. its easier to get to if you remove the whole arm. lift the wiper arm and near the pivot point there is a little flat bar that sticks out along the arm itself. its about a quarter inch long. pull that out alittle and slide the arm off the peg. makes it easier for me. if you cannot get the wiper off still, destroy it. your replacing it anyway and the arm is pretty sturdy.

---
The wiper motor hopefully is ok, but if the wiper arms were not mounted at the right spot, it could have damaged the motor as it returned to the rest position, unfortunately.

If there is noise, the noise could be coming from the wiper arm joint being stripped out or the motor itself assuming that the ball joints under the hood and behind the firewall are still connected.

Check these items, and I'm sure you will get to the bottom of this.

Good luck on this repair.

I installed a new wiper motor. I ran it before installing the wiper arms. it will not stop at zero. it over travels down into the cowling. I try to rest them higher then they stop some where in the middle...

Try to run the motor without the wiper arms tightened down and turn it off so it can cycle down to its rest state. Then install the wiper arms.

Make sure, that the car's windshield wiper wiring is correct for this motor.
