Guages when crazy. Now won't even try to start.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Driving the other day, dashboard lights and gauges went crazy. No loss of power, possible loss of 4 wheel drive. Returned home. Parked in the garage all day. Went to start it, completely dead. Even the remote unlock would not work. Went to get help to push it out of the garage. Tried it once more. Turned over. Drove to Dealer. Diagnostic negative. Drove 2 more days. Just pulled in and went to turn off, same thing with crazy gauges. Turned it off. Turned it on. No problem. Next morning it was completely dead again. Doesn’t even try. No remote works. No power at all. If turning the key forward and half way back, can make a continuous clicking sound.

I had similar problem with 1999 Grand Cherokee. Turned out to be battery gone. When not enough voltage in batt, things started playing up, all gauges flicking over and back, etc. clicking noise also. New battery sorted it.

This was it. I installed a new battery last year and didn't clean the cable well enough apparently. I wish the dealer would have listened to the story as you all did, because you were right on the money. Thank you.

You likely have it repaired by now but it sounds like a classic case of oxidized battery or cable connection (sometimes mis-diagnosed as bad battery but cured with new (clean) battery)

Terminal cleaning should be done at regular intervals of about once a year. When checking oil, never hurts to just give a glance at them. Repair business has become so high-pressure that you cannot depend on techs to monitor this stuff!!!
Glad to help and good luck!!

I have a 99 jeep grand cherokee 4.7, the alarm went crazy and the wont start. guages dont budge and horn keeps honking and lights flashing. sentry key light is on in guage cluster any help

Sounds like you need to perform a relearn on the anti theft system, it's not recognizing the key if this happens with the key inserted. Might want to look online for a reset procedure for Jeep. GM has you keeping the key in the ignition in the on position for 10 minutes.

Gauges on Dashboard

Are the dash lights working ok? Does the jeep start normally? If so, then there is most probably a fault in the instrument cluster.

My 2002 jeep grand cherokee was fine went to the store came out started the engine started shaking and when try driving it will turn off

its possible that the fuel pump may have gone bad and needs replacing.have the fuel pressure and volume checked with a gage.fuel pumps go bad as sudden as a light bulb burns out without warning.

How long does it take for the computer to reset so i can get an emmission check? 2002 grand ch. limited. ive heard up to a week, but was looking for anouther opinion. thank you.

It is typically 10 drive cycles and could take anywhere from 2 to 5 days depending on the type of driving you do. Try to take the car on the highway for a few miles, get off the highway, shut it down for a while, then do some local street driving.

Speedometer and Tachometer not working- no check engine light .

Had this problem on my Town & Country Van. I found online to remove the IOD fuse for a few seconds to reset the system. It worked for me. Guages & lights went crazy when I turned it on, but everything went to working properly.
