Starter won't engage sometimes when key is turned to start.there is no clicking or any kind of noise if I keep bumping the ign switch it will eventually start.ign switch has been changed,batteries brand new once years ago this happen it was the neutral safety switch and I replaced the shift lever.even after running the boat for hrs and shutting down to refuel it will happen again sometimes should I suspect the slave solenoid? how should I troubleshoot this thanks in advance

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. The neutral safety switch is located in the shifter housing.

Yes, it sounds like the NSS is the culprit.

I had same problem w/ my '88 Ram50. Turned out to be bad contacts on the battery cables. Temp fix and test was to put a little screw between the post and the end connector. Didn't have a problem then, so I replaced the cables.

If you go to your library you can look for free. Just not sure of location of of neutral safety switch for your year of car. In the back of motor manual is wire diagrams you will find switch there. Also GEO Prism is the same car.
