91 mazda 626dx 2.2liter shuts off while driving

Replaced ignition coil... ignition module.... plugs are getting barely any spark. while driving the car completely shut down. we replaced the coil and it ran for about 5 miles and then shut down again. so we replaced the ignition module and still cant get it started. any help?

I had the same problem. It used to vibrate alot when getting around 50 to 70 and then one time it cut of while i was driving but then the strangest thing happened and it turned back on and it was fine. But it did this a couple of times. Then the problem worsened and when i was at a dead stop say like a stop light or stop sign it completely shut off and couldnt get it started till about 30 minutes later. But it did that about 3 more times and then now i cant even get it started. So then i started to read the manual on my car and i checked certain systems and i would not get a spark. So I replaced the plugs, the spark plug wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil, battery, and now i took out the cpu and i was going to trace it back to whats faulty but yet my manual does not cover my version. So i tried looking on the internet for the chart to tell me what wires are what and there is none. And yes i checked the fuel system and fuel filter and it is working just fine. Please help me and im sorry for the long message i just wanted to let you know what all i have done.

My 1987 Mazda b 2600 2bbl, there's no spark from coil.

If there is no spark coming from the coil on your 1987 Mazda B 2600 with a 2 barrel carburetor, there could be a few potential causes. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the ignition control module: The ignition control module is responsible for generating the high voltage needed to create the spark in the ignition system. If the module is faulty, it can cause a lack of spark.
  2. Check the spark plug wires: The spark plug wires carry the spark from the ignition system to the spark plugs. If the wires are damaged or not connected properly, it can cause a lack of spark.
  3. Check the spark plugs: The spark plugs are responsible for creating the spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture in the engine. If the spark plugs are worn out or damaged, they may not be able to create a spark.
  4. Check the ignition coil: The ignition coil is responsible for creating the high voltage needed to create the spark in the ignition system. If the coil is damaged or not functioning properly, it can cause a lack of spark.
If none of these steps help resolve the issue, it may be necessary to have the ignition system checked by a mechanic or repair shop. They can test the components of the ignition system and determine the cause of the lack of spark

It is possible that the black wire that is connected to the little black box on the side of your distributor could be causing the lack of spark in your ignition system if it is broken or not connected properly. The black wire likely carries a signal from the ignition control module to the ignition coil, and if it is not functioning properly, it could prevent the ignition coil from generating the high voltage needed to create a spark.
To troubleshoot this issue, you will need to repair or replace the broken wire and ensure that it is securely connected to the little black box on the side of the distributor. You should also check the connection between the little black box and the ignition control module to make sure it is secure and functioning properly. If the issue persists after repairing or replacing the wire and checking the connections, it may be necessary to have the ignition system checked by a mechanic or repair shop to determine the cause of the lack of spark.

I have no spark for 91 grand am. ignition control module or ignition coil?

You have 3 coils located on top of the ignition module with 2 spark plug wires to each. Usually on that vehicle only one coil dies at once. But if you have no spark at all the ignition module would be the usual problem. There are a couple other unlikely things that can also cause this problem but it will require a repair shop to diagnosis them.

My car shuts down randomly, and sometimes will start, shake voilently and then die again, sometimes starts right back up, other times takes over an hour to run again.

1) you must pass the Scanner +computer you will have a exactly diagnostic.
2) However you must reset the ignition timing to the manufacturer specification, Does not matter if your Electronic Ignition(EI)
3) TEST the coil ignition for defective.
4) cables spark plug for open or faulty
5) spark plug for defective.
6) EI module for defective.
God bless you

No spark to the plugs

Replace the ignition module in the distributor, the thump was probably the engine misfiring through the intake manifold. Considering the absence of spark changing the ignition module is the next step to take look on ebay motors to get the best price on parts, however I would still check with the local parts stores to see if there parts are competetively priced cosidering the shipping time from ebay can be up to 5 days.

Car just stopped running. Lost power suddenly.

Find an inductive pickup indicator for spark. Place on distributor cap to see if spark is at coil internal tower. If no spark at internal tower, look at ignition module or pickup coil. Ignition modules are prone to failure on 626's. But if you have spark at tower but not at the wire end, then your rotor is gone.

While driving, the engine dies.

I had the same thing happen on a 91 Olds 88. Replaced crank shaft position sensor, coil, and ignition module. That solved the problem. I think the culprit was the CSP Sensor, but changed all three so can't say for sure.

Will not start, no spark

get spark tester and start testing from the spark plugs back. first hook it to aplug wire and check for spark if no spark ten hook it to the coil wire and check for spark if no spark then there is a chance that your coil or ignition module is bad if it is equipt with electronic ignition.

Mazda rustler 160i

Hi Gerrie1974-

WildBill49 here......Not knowing the specific year and version of your Mazda, I cannot give you a specific part at fault, but I can help you. I am assuming we're talking about an electronic distributor single coil ignition system

If the spark is weak directly out of the coil (with a known good coil hooked up with correect polarity), then the problem is in the spark trigger module... There is a variety of designs, but the basic components remain the same. This is the part of the ignition system that replaces the breaker points. It consists of two parts - a magnetic spark trigger sensor, and a spark signal amplifier/controller. these are sometimes combined into one ignition module.

Replace this module, and spark from the coil should be strong! If it is still weak, reverse the two wires to the coil.

Weak spark at the plug wire with the above good indicates distributor cap/rotor replacement time...

Gerrie, I hope this is what you are looking for, best of luck, and if you feel my advice worthy, please rate it!!!

Thanx-
