Slowed down to 15 mph to make turn. Engine quit and I had to work hard to steer car. All dash warning lights came on. Car would not restart on 5 tries. Let it sit and then it started with check engine light on as well as flashing cruise control light. Can drive it but what happened?
Is the battery dead
Alternator not charging
Fuel pump fail
Check for codes
The engine stopping means no power steering and that is why it was hard to steer. The cpu continually monitors all sensors and when gets out of parameters then the cpu lights the engine light and shuts down the engine if the sensor at fault is critical to the safety of the engine. Check for fault code but I'm guessing you are low on water and when you changed direction the water level allowed the water level sensor to activate and the cpu said loss of water/overheat so shut down. Have it checked out by a compentent mechanic.

dealer only software neede to reset this problem.sorry i couldnt be any more help but try reading the software whens it encrypted ??
SOURCE: check engine light and flashing cruise light always on
To properly diagnose problem and the seriousness of it, you should either purchase an OBD2 code reader or take it to a mechanic to read the code and diagnose the problem based on the code. I've also heard you can go to an Autozone store and their staff will let you use their code reader for free.
The OBDII port is located just inches below the steering wheel.
SOURCE: check engine light, cruis control light flashes,
I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM BACK IN AUGUST. GO GET YOU TIMING CHECKED I DID NOT AND I BLEW MY ENGINE. SUBARU TOLD ME I "OIL STARVED" THE ENGINE AND DID NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON THE WEB THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THEN ONE OCCASION. LONG STORY SHORT I GOT THE CHICKEN AND EGG STORY WHAT HAPPENED FIRST TIMING WHEEL BREAKING AND CLOGGING THE OIL OR OIL NOT RUNNING PROPER AND THE TIMING WHEEL BREAKING. NOW I HAVE A CAR SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WAITING FOR A TEN THOUSAND YES TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR ENGINE. AND THREE MORE YEARS OF PAYMENTS
SOURCE: We were driving on the interstate about 70 mph
I have owned five Subarus and this is a problem I that have never seen before. When your TCS light comes on, it disables cruise control, so that part should not worry you.
Since your TCS and check engine light came on together, I suspect the "problem" was with the transmission. It sounds like a one-time "fluke".
You can go to any good auto parts store and ask to borrow their ECM analyzer.... it is a "box" that wil talk to your Tribeca's computer and let you know exactly what the problem is. You connect it to the jack by the drivers side left knee, then turn the key on (but do not start). Follow the directions on the screen and it will give you a readout of what problems it sees.
Copy down the displayed information in case you need it.... The code number(s) and description(s) can be very helpful.
Follow the on-screen instructions and clear (erase) the problems. Turn off your car, disconnect the box, and after you return it drive home and see if the lights come back. You may have had a "freak" occurance, and that is what I am hoping happened... you hit a pothole or bump just right and the computer lost its mind for just a second....
If it gives you any peace of mind.... the 3.0 H-6 Subaru engine is the absolutely most solid, best performing engine I have ever experienced in a car.. Mine was a 2001 LL Bean Limited and I LOVED IT! My big mistake was giving it to one of my children.... but that story is best left to a blog and not this forum!!!
Good Luck!
