2004 chev avalanche truck, 176,000 miles. Bad Heads and water getting into oil. Uses alot coolant weekly. Oil pressure shows on gauge all the way to right. Too High. Should I also replace oil pump & oil sending unit ? Putting in new remaufactured Jasper Engine. Any other parts you suggest ? Plan on keeping truck for several years.

Hi, this is a oil pressure sensor malfunction. the gauge is getting a distorted reading from the sensor. replacing the gauge will fix this issue. also, check the fuse box for blown fuses.

if it is electrical oil pressure sensor I would start there. The best way to see if you have a major problem is to use a mechanical oil pressure tester. Take off the oil pressure sensor and put the mechanical tester on. The tester should come with a Gage. If it comes within your trucks oil pressure range than all is fine and replace the sending unit and see if that don't help your problem. If the tester runs high then the oil pump is bad or your cam-bearings could be the problem. But with cam-bearings you would usually get a low reading.

if you know for certain that the sending unit is correct and the guage is accurate, then yiu may have big problems.....while the engine is running open the oil filler hole.. is everything wet with oil? or does it look dry or just a little lubed? you can allways install an aftermarket oil pressure guage(crappy tire) if you get the same results with that then you may have a week oil pump....worst case scenerio... need an engine rebuild as the moter may have wear issues.does the pressure slowly drop as the motor warms up? at idle ? does it jump up when you step on the gas?
