Car runs like a dream - 200K miles but runs like new. Only problem has been the alternator. No warning, running perfectly when I cut it off and then when I crank it again, the parking brake light shows even though it has been released, the battery light flashes, lights brighten when accelerating and dim when slowing down. If I cut the lights, it appears to run fine. However, history tells me it won't last long. Mechanic (2 different ones, both very reputable and one is a personal friend) that has replaced the alternators for me cannot find a reason that the new one only last about a year. Have used remanufactured and new replacements. No difference - they still die. Help! I love my Maxima!

i have a 1997 nissan pick up truck and i have changed at least 5 alternators in the past year. I got the alternators from napa. So everytime i bring them back they give me another one. Once i install the new alternator the car drives fine. Then a couple of days or weeks later it will start to make some squeeking noise like a dry belt. and then the alternator quits and the car wont start. The battery light never comes on, i bought a new batttery but is not the right size for the truck. Also i tried with the belt really tight and then loose and the alternator keeps burning.
