At first the fan was coming off and on for no reason, now it wont work at all. The car temperature is fine if I am drivng, but heats up if I have to sit at a stop light.
The computer grounds a relay to turn the fan on based on input from the engine temp sensor.
You would need to know if the engine temp sensor is sending the correct input to the computer, and if the computer is grounding the relay. The fan should come on at 220 degrees.
Step 1:
This cooling fan circuit has 2 cooling fans and 2 cooling fan relays, both cooling fan relays are located in the BJB
(battery junction box, underhood fuse box) there is a low speed or main
cooling fan relay in cavity location # K-46 and the high speed relay is
location # K-47! Also check the main cooling fan power fuse # 2 in the
same BJB, The fuse is a MAXI-FUSE (large one) it is blue in color and is
rated at 60amps!Step 2:
Also check the coolent tempature sensor thats what signals the fan to turn on.Step 3:
Do the fans turn on when you turn the a/c on. if not may have bad fan motor

i would try the water pump first to do the heater core on that im pretty sure you have to pull the dash good idea when you change the water pump replace the timing belt easy job if u have the 2.0dohc hope this helps
SOURCE: Car overheating; cooling fan not working
This is most likely caused by a bad sensor in the radiator. I have never repaired this on a ford focus so I can't tell you where the sensor is located but if you find the sensor and then make a jumper wire and remove the wire from the sensor and jump the two wires together and turn the car ON (don't start the car) if the fan runs, the sensor is bad and must be replaced.

try to run the water pump without hoses, and add water in the 'in' side, if is powers out the other side, then it's fine. how is your water/coolant mix?

Did you make sure you got all the air out of the cooling system? Air pockets are a big thing, flucutation in you temp. guage tells me you got air in the system.

LOOK FOR BLOWN WINDOW CIRCUIT BREAKER.YOU HAVE A SHORT IN WINDOW SWITCH OR BAD WINDOW ELECTRIC MOTOR.YOUR HEAT PROBLEM IS A STOPPED UP HEATER CORES.THE STOP LEAK STOP ITS HEAT.THE STOP LEAK HAS STOPPED OR PLUGGED YOUR HEATER CORE SO COOLANT CANT PASS THROUGH IT.YOU GOING HAVE TO FIX RADIATOR LEAK AND REPLACE HEATER CORE TO GET HEAT AGAIN.
