SOURCE: Does my car need a tune up and oxygen sensors replaced after the catalyic converter is changed?

No,Although a tune up should have been done,This would not clog a new convertor,If in fact the new one is clogged,You have a deeper under lying problem and I would recomend you take it some where else for a second opinion, without telling them what the first place said. That way,They test the vehicle completely.

If you tell them what the first place said, they are more likely to agree than to test for something else.

SOURCE: Oxygen sensor replacement

It's something you can with simple tools, you have four O2 sensors. Your going to have to get the truck rescanned or if you have the DTC code, you can find out which O2 sensor has gone bad so you can replace it. Your going to have Two upstream O2 sensors on each exhaust bank, one O2 sensor before the Catalytic Converter, and the last one after the Catalytic Converter. Its like replacing a Spark plug and you can pick up the O2 sensor at any large Auto Parts store with a can of WD 40. Just unclip the wire leads to the O2 sensor and then with a O2 sensor socket or hint close end wrench and hammer, you can remove the O2 sensor from the exhaust pipe. Good luck and be safe.

SOURCE: check engine light on because of oxygen sensor on

Before to change other sensor or parts, I suggest scanned the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to know exactly what fault code is stored there ans causing engine light turn on. With this code number we could send other details.

Some Autozone or Autoshop with OBD scanner readers make this job for free.

Hope this helps, keep us updated and just keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Where is the oxygen sensor located on the 5.8L ?

The o2 sensors are on the exhaust pipes. You should have 4 of them. One for each side before your catalyctic converters and after.

My daughter has a 02 Ford Taurus and the engine light came on. We were told the problem code was a 420 but they could not diagnose the problem. They turned the light off but soon it came back on. Any...

What was the letter in front of the 0420 (i.e. P or B) if it was a P then the code is for a catalytic effenciency code. this usually caused by a lazy or an O2 sensor that is going out, or the catalytic converter itself is going out. The only way to really find the problem is to hook it up to a diagnostic code reader and monitor the O2 sensors for their flucuations and see if one is not lazy or not reading at all, if the sensors are flucuating then i would lean towards a catalytic converter. Hope this helps you out.
