I took it to the service guy and he says its the head gasket and says it will cost me around 800.00 dollars. Is this correct? on a straight six, i just cant believe that. Anyone that knows please tell me if it is correct or not. i had on replaced on a ford taurus and it was only 750.00. thanks bennzoid
Gasket itself is about 170, other gaskets likely another 50, antifreeze and oil etc about another 30.Lab should be abt 6hrs X whatever rate the shop gets...I'll guess 70hr=420. total= 670.plus tax so, the shop seems to be about 130 high, but I'm guessing at these #s but I'm usually pretty close. Of course you could get your wrenches out and save a bunch on labor. (should take a regular guy about 10hrs without the aid of air tools).
I did look it up the flat rate with a/c is almost four hours... plus whatever parts are required.
Robert
Depends on wether or not the head was cracked or not. Your Taurus head may have been able to be machined, saving you the cost of purchasing a new head. Of course, most times the head has to be sent out to check for cracks, so if that was not done then you could be getting overcharged.
