Water entering trunk near left side qrtr panel seam near tail light assembly. fills tire well, runs forward under rear seat, floor, under driver seat, problem seems to occur when freeway driving in rain. Have eliminated tail light assmbly/seal as culprit. Trunk lid seal and area around seal remains dry.
I found the leak. It was in the body seam formed at point where left taillight cage, upper & lower parts of quarter panel come together. Appears as though body filler/seam sealer cracked and fell out/off of seem leaving 1/8 opening. Repaired with Body Seam Sealer. Time will tell if this is the end of my water woesI found the leak. It is actually rain water coming in from a bad seal around your trunk. The only way I have found to figure it out is to fold the seat down while someone else runs a water hose around all the gaps around the trunk while you lay in the back and watch for water. It can come in around the edges of the trunk, the spot where your emblem goes, and your tail light assembly.
buy some foam spray from a can spray it around trunk seam bottom not trunk lid. close trunk to let it dry and shape foam. also check for any holes in trunk. remove all padding to look for wholes. spray foam into any holes found. this foam can also be trimmed after it dries and hardens.
Most of the problems come when its raining and if its not being driven and water still comes in then its the bonnet rubber and if when its being driven then its due to the rear wheel throughing up water under wheelarch and somewhere theres a crack in the weld or somewhere and it will find its way in..
So if not using it clean it out and when rain stops look inside no rain no leak Have a goodday
Buick has punched holes in the rear of the car, behind the bumper.
These hole were covered with a tape to prevent water from getting in. As car ages the tape comes loose and the spare tire well fills with water.
NOW THE BAD NEWS.
The rear bumper has to be removed to get access to the holes, for you to cover them. I recommend that you use Extreme Weather Foil Duct tape to cover them. (available at Home Depot)
Mother nature is too slow in finding leaks. Have someone small get in the trunk with a flashligh and watch as you run a hose over everything. LET THE PERSON OUT!
The two are of course not related. Check the trunk seal for missing portion, tears, splits, etc. this has to be where the rain is coming in. You can check for leaks with a hose and climb in the trunk with a flashlight, having a trusty helper direct water to one area at a time to check for the leak. The gas cap light is probably on due to a defective evap. vent valve, which is located behind the left rear tire near fill tube for gas tank.
My 1990 Honda Accord does this too. When I wash it or when it rains. If I open the trunk/deck lid water flows out of the right rear tail light housing into the trunk.
Solution: get some rubber gasket sealant and apply under the lower gasket around the rear window on each side at the corners. Allow for drying time. Close the trunk and try some water if this doesn't work you will likely have to replace the rear window seal.
on mine water was coming from the tail light assembly, some waterproof tape helped. install where the light assembly meets the rear metal panel. a towel place right below the light will confirm the diagnosis.
