There are multiple computers in the car that have to talk to one and other. There is the ECM or ECU and it talks to the BCM. Sounds like the BCM is having issues.
You may have a bcm problem? The bcm controls both the brakes and turn signals. Any applicable trouble codes? Click on the link, part of wiring for brake lamps, you can check the fuse and relay. Also, check the fuse circuit for voltage, use a test light.
There are two fuse panels on the 2007, 2008, 2009 Saturn Aura. The first is under the hood. The second is in the trunk hidden behind a pop-out panel in the side trim on the driver's side. , I dont Know if the XR is different but there is a third on the passanger side on the lower portion of the instrument panel near the floor
the clicking you hear is a relay that may be shot , once you find the one that is the problem you can get them at parts store cheaply , make sure to take old one with you
I HAVE A 2007 AURA DOING THE EXACT SAME THING..TAKING IT INN THE MORNING..HAVE SERVICES PAYING FOR AND CANT HEAR...JUST GOING IN FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FOR SATURN CARS..BUT I KNOW ITS NOT MY FUSE THIS TIME...HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND IT WAS THAT SIMPLE. FUSE BOX IN THE TRUNK WAS THE SOLUTION AT THAT TIME. THIS TIME ALL FUSES WERE GOOD...SO THINKING IT MAY BE MY RELAY SWITCHES...JUST HOPE IT DOESNT COST AN ARM AND LEG....JUST MISS MY XM AND ONSTAR....
Hello! All the brake lights are controlled in part by the Stop Lamp Relay (#49)...When you tap your brakes all the brake lights come on ...Then off...For only the top mounted light to come on when you do not tap your brakes would require a wire (Light Blue in color) to be touching battery in the harness...question is; When you see the top light come on are you certain the other brake lights are off?...Have you had someone monitor the lights when the problem happens? If only the top mounted light is malfunctioning the problem isn't a component, as such, but a wiring fault (which I can find)...If you as the driver only see the top light come on and assume the other brake lights are off It is more then likely the relay mentioned earlier or a defective Brake Pedal Position sensor...
Tell me if you are certain only the top mounted brake light comes on by itself...And I'll take it from there....Guru...Saailer
You likely have a blown fuse. I have heard using the cigarette lighter for charging your cell phone can blow the fuse - was told to use the charger inside the center console for charging my cell phone.
