You need to diagnose the EGR System
Not replace parts in hope of getting it right
Codes only indicate an Emissions Malfunction
or Fault, thus the code
Codes & trouble charts are used to then component test
Google the code & study the problem
There are many EGR Codes--- study yours ,as it pertains
to your vehicle & engine package

SOURCE: p0405 code.. changed egr valve and cleaned passage
The truck has two egr vales unless it's a 4 cylinder, then it has one, if it say your slipping and it's automatic change the filter and oil in the transmission and add Lucas transmission fluid conditioner to the tyranny. If the EGR valve is still giving a code then it means something in the egr system is not working, and one item that comes to mind is the purge canister valve on the evaporative control canister. To test find the purge valve and crimp it off with a pair of vise grips to close the vent then drive it. If it runs good then you have found your problem. Also low vacuum can cause the transmission not to shift correctly as it needs a vac. input for it to shift. Check your transmission fluid if it is brown and sort of smells like onions then the fluid is burnt and will cause all types of erratic behavior. And since I took the time to write this I would like to get some feed back as I am about to stop doing this.

404 is exhaust gas recirculation circuit, and 405 is exhaust gas recirculation sensor circuit low. EGR sensor or ground?

Do you have an odd smell in the interior compartment? This could be due to the egr being damaged from debris from the road. Hire a professional to do it or go to a car parts store and get the motors repair manual or similar.

Erase the code and see if it returns. If it does, replace the valve. What engine do you have? If it is a 3.4 it should be right on top. One plug and two bolts.
SOURCE: I cant find the egr valve.
Its right in front of the engine as soon as u open the hood On the left side. It has one electric cable connected on top and a pipe with the diameter of a dime at the lower side running to a lower section of the engine.
